🌟 Breaking Barriers in Mental Health for School Children 🌟 Through the incredible partnership between Savaira (The Soorty Foundation) and the Fahmida Begum Foundation (FBF), a groundbreaking Parvaan School Wellness Program is transforming mental health support for students at the FBF school. This initiative focuses on: ✔️ Training teachers to tackle mental health challenges and engage students effectively. ✔️ Deploying a lay counselor, Ms. Areesha, to provide emotional support and guidance for students and parents. ✔️ Introducing wellness activities, classroom interventions, and parental awareness sessions. With Savaira covering counseling support until June 2025, this program is creating a supportive environment where students can thrive. Mental Health Awareness Week is beginning once again and I feel safe to admit that I have chosen rather a low-key strategy across our setting this year. My decision to do this is due to two considerations. Firstly, inclusivity. I have given staff choice as to which activities they think will be most beneficial for their classes rather than dictating what they ‘should’ be doing. After all, they are the experts in what is meaningful and relevant for their unique group of learners. In addition, mental health awareness applies to us as much as our pupils and were I to come along placing excessive demands as to curriculum content, then I suspect it would have a detrimental impact on staff wellbeing. Secondly, I have a personal dislike of doing things just because there is a high profile event taking place. In my opinion, teaching and promoting support around mental health is so important that it deserves to happen all year round and not just during an annual week. I am very fortunate to work in a school where the former is happening and so for us, this week will just permit a slightly higher focus of something we prioritise each and every day. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthawarenessweek2024 #priorities #vision #staffwellbeing

🚀Advancing Mental Health Support in Schools 🚀 I had the privilege of meeting with the YouBelong team last week under the Powerful Minds project, a three-year initiative focused on equipping teachers in Jinja and Buikwe districts with the skills to provide mental health and psychosocial support to both learners and fellow teachers. During the meeting, we reviewed findings from our recent support supervision and discussed the project’s theory of change and stakeholder analysis. Today, on World Mental Health Day, our Head of School, Ms. Deborah Sharifi, launched 'A Walk Through Wellbeing', our new online platform designed to support our child's emotional, social, and academic well-being. At Downe House Riyadh, we believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. That's why we've created this platform to provide parents with valuable resources and guidance. This was shared with all the stakeholders to ensure they have access to resources to help them deal with any situation they may be faced with. Key features include: Personalized advice: Tailored recommendations based on the child's age and needs. Expert guidance: Articles and videos from mental health professionals. Community support: Connect with other parents and share experiences. Our goal is to empower and support our parents in guiding their child's journey towards a balanced and fulfilling life. A safe and supportive school environment plays a crucial role in promoting students' mental and emotional health.
