Tonkin + Taylor's Water team is currently at the Water New Zealand Stormwater Conference in Wellington this week from 15-17 May. Hear from Lisa Dowson, Josh Hodson, and Selene Conn on the theme of this year's conference, which focuses on embracing change in Stormwater infrastructure, from ecological impacts, design + management, and our green solutions approach at T+T. To make radical change we must look at the wider system. How do we maximise these environments in urban developments and green field spaces to gain better ecological and environmental outcomes? It starts with urban planning and design.

Achieving a reduction in embodied carbon demands a transformation across major global industries. While this challenge is too large for any single organization or network to tackle alone, the CLF Toronto | Carbon Leadership Forum is strategically positioned to influence the building sector with targeted, high-impact initiatives and interventions. We are proud to support an organization who is raising awareness, driving innovation and fostering change to eliminate carbon from buildings and infrastructure through collective action. #CarbonLeadership #EmbodiedCarbon #SustainableBuilding #ClimateAction #CarbonReduction #BuildingSustainability

We are increasingly looking for more ways to increase density in existing middle and inner ring suburbs to mitigate horizontal and vertical sprawl. This is also an important moment to move away from heavy construction to lightweight mass timber technology. With high construction costs and low risk development culture this requires support and partnership between industry and government to increase capacity in the sector. #BZE This is an opportunity to link HAFF funding / Super / social impact investing with climate objectives to facilitate a medium density development sector with strong environmental (and cost effective/commercially sustainable) construction products and techniques. Excellent news from Lewes as Human Nature win planning approval for their redevelopment of the Phoenix industrial estate. Why such good news? Because in these early stages of the project, Human Nature have demonstrated the very highest climate and nature ambitions, recognising what needs to be done, not only to reduce emissions from construction & operation of the buildings, but also to encourage low-carbon lifestyles of future residents. We desperately need new exemplar projects that show us how we can build whole neighbourhoods & towns whilst still respecting planetary boundaries, and it looks like this will be one of them. From all at Built by Nature, congrats to everyone involved; Jonathan Smales Andy Tugby Katy Whelan Rosie Westwood Jeremy Walker Cany Ash Meredith Bowles & many others. Excited to see this delivered! https://lnkd.in/ewDum_83
