In 2023 Webgyrlz Code launched our "Mommy & Me" Computer Science Boot Camps ™ - programming classes that take a 2-generational approach to bring more female software engineers into the workforce. We can’t do this important work of computer science training without the generosity of donors who care about providing opportunity and hope. #pocit #womenintech #girlswhocode #webdesign #nonprofit #csforall #momscancode

Lace Up For Change (LU4C) is on a mission to “Shorten the Queues”! As we celebrate 8 years of empowering communities, we’re excited to expand our Kids Start Coding Program—an initiative equipping children aged 8–16 with vital computer literacy and coding skills. Since September 2024, learners have mastered foundational concepts in Scratch, and we’re preparing to introduce advanced programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python in 2025. Our vision for 2025 includes: 1️⃣ Expanding to more undeserved schools. 2️⃣ Hosting a teachers’ workshop during the March holidays to empower educators as coding facilitators. 3️⃣ Providing critical resources to ensure impactful learning environments. Here’s how you can help: 💻 Volunteer your coding skills to mentor young learners. 📚 Sponsor a teacher or learner to join our program. 🎁 Donate unused laptops, projectors, or funds to support program costs. By partnering with us, you’ll help replace long queues for aid with opportunities for growth, education, and independence. Together, let’s transform lives through technology! 📧 Contact us at thecrew@lu4c 📱 Call us at 082 882 2567 #LaceUpForChange #KidsStartCoding #ShorteningTheQueues #FutureCoders #DigitalEmpowerment #EducationForAll #MakeADifference

Google is expanding access to computer science + coding education for disabled students! Google launched a $5 million fund to support nonprofits making computer science and coding more accessible for disabled students. I'm celebrating this initiative because: 1. This can hopefully help disabled students find employment. 2. We need more disabled professionals in computer science and coding to represent the disability community and make sure we're not left out of technology. Nonprofits using Google's open source library, Blockly, to develop and implement inclusive tools and curricula will be funded by this initiative. Blockly's accessibility features include a keyboard navigation plugin to support users with visual, mobility, or other disabilities who cannot use a mouse. Four theme plugins help with common types of visual disabilities including color blindness and low vision. To receive updates on the fund including a notification when applications launch, sign up at: https://lnkd.in/eM_t_2zN What do you think about this initiative? P.S. Shout-out to my home state of Maryland for inspiring this fund! Google shared that the Department of Education in Maryland is a leader in accessible education policies. #Accessibility #DisabilityInclusion #EdTech

Congratulations Prof. Piech! #Codeinplace is an amazing program aimed to teach Python to anyone interested, check out this post to learn more about it and apply to become a student or a volunteer. Let me know if you have any questions. #codeinplace #python #volunteer
Join us in congratulating Assistant Professor Chris Piech, who received the Miriam Aaron Roland Volunteer Service Prize on March 1, 2024. Chris was honored for his role in launching Code in Place during the depths of the pandemic. Code in Place is an introductory online programming course that is free to everyone. Amidst so many school closures, Chris and more than 900 volunteers, made the six-week course accessible to thousands of learners. The course essentially duplicates the first half of CS106A, one of Stanford’s most popular courses. I got the chance to catch up with Gabor Peter Pfalzer, talking about the projects I am currently working on or collaborating with others, what I have learned up to this point, and where I am currently at in my coding journey. Also attended the async standup meeting for Linguistics Justice League, updating each other with what we have accomplished in the Heritage Hub application, and the next steps we want to take for the application. #CodingJourney #nonprofit #coding #meeting #coffeechat

Did you know that you can schedule your #NorthTexasGivingDay donation early? Do it today! https://lnkd.in/gA5fvFEA We are asking the community to equip a new generation to Dream, Code & Create. This includes establishing Coding Clubs at three new school partners in under-resourced neighborhoods, allowing more students the opportunity to learn vital computer science skills with the guidance of technology mentors. Here’s what new funding will help us accomplish this year: $50 can cover the cost of flyers, posters, and staff time to recruit students for a school-based Coding Club $75 can provide 5 students with access to Codio, an IDE and digital learning platform where students code their projects and access learning materials $100 can cover staff time to recruit, train, and support new volunteer mentors $250 can help cover the cost of CNM-pact, software that measures student learning outcomes $500 can provide after-hours pay to a teacher liaison supporting a Coding Club $1,500 can create new computer science curriculum for Bold Idea students Every little bit counts and can add up to have a huge impact! #computerscience #codingclubs #boldidea #mentoring #levelup
