Good afternoon, LinkedIn Community! Have you heard of Peer Support Programs for Service Members? Let’s discuss what this term, Peer Support Program, means to you specifically. As we, Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, strive to improve the support systems in place for our Service Members, I am interested in hearing your thoughts on any gaps in services that exist, the different mental/behavioral health challenges faced, whether there is still a stigma surrounding mental/behavioral health, and if there are enough or too many resources available. By sharing our experiences and insights, we can work towards improving the support systems in place for our Service Members. I believe that together, we can provide the necessary resources and support that make a true difference to those who need it most. Thank you in advance for your contributions to this important conversation. David W. Today is #CivicPrideDay. People who have civic pride help their communities thrive and their hometowns be a better place to live. Civic pride can be demonstrated in a multitude of ways. For instance, tackling issues of public concern, shaping legislation, or other activities that improve the standard of living for or well-being of community members. Not only do Veterans love to serve their county, but community civic pride is also embedded in their DNA. A 2015 American Enterprise Institute study compared the community engagement of Veterans vs. non-Veterans in 11 ways and found that Veterans typically do more for their communities and are ‘civic assets.’ See study results here: https://lnkd.in/gP-3345G Join the Veteran Champion Movement. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that veterans are at 72% higher risk of suicide than those who have not served. To address this issue, HMP Global is partnering with Stop Soldier Suicide — a national nonprofit working to reduce the military suicide rate by 40% by 2030 — for the 2024 Day of Giving. On Friday, August 16, a portion of all HMP Global event and program registrations will support Stop Soldier Suicide’s lifesaving work. We pay tribute to those who served with unwavering courage and sacrifice, remembering their dedication and valor. Today and every day, we express our gratitude to our veterans for safeguarding our freedom. 🇺🇸 Many of our nation’s veterans face housing insecurity after serving our country. According to The results of the 2023 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count showed that, in 2023, 35,574 Veterans in Texas (or 22 of every 10,000 Veterans in the United States) were experiencing homelessness, a 7.4% increase from 2022. Looking more closely, at an astonishing 97.6%, nearly all Veterans in Texas were experiencing homelessness. This highlights the urgent need for safe, affordable housing solutions that provide stability and support. As we honor veterans, let’s also advocate for accessible housing opportunities for those who have sacrificed so much. Together, we can create a future where no veteran has to worry about where they’ll sleep at night. #SupportOurVeterans #PeopleOfMerced #AffordableHousing #VeteransDay 📸: Pictured are veterans living at Coastal Haven Senior Apartments in Corpus Christi where Merced provided Resident Services. Joining them is Nueces County Judge Joe Benavides, retired U.S. Marine Corps. Read more about veterans experiencing homelessness and recent statistics at https://lnkd.in/gk9ZtJSd.

When I see “Happy Veterans Day” I cringe. What’s so happy about it U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs? The fact that today we’re reminded of just how poorly we treat those who protect and serve this country. We know the cost freedom only accepts currency of human lives through pain and suffering. •Homeless veterans: 33,882 as of 2024, why? •Veteran suicide rate: In the first quarter of 2024, there were 94 service member suicides, an increase from 91 in the same period of 2023, why? •Unemployed veterans, #every state has unemployed veterans to include myself, which was not by choice, why ? You can celebrate a slight decrease in numbers but until the data reflects “0”, what are you really celebrating for, accomplishing mediocre work? Having less problems than more!? Are you proud? I don’t think veterans should be subject to this type of abuse, especially when they signed up to protect the people of this nation. President #Donald #Trump, I’m eager to see how you fix these problems. #Leadership #censorship References: https://lnkd.in/gSgRbwua. https://lnkd.in/g-6FbSXH https://lnkd.in/g7UFQKir
