Two Years at GRAIL – A Journey Just Beginning 🚀Two years ago, I joined GRAIL with the hope of contributing to something larger than myself—creating a space where everyone could feel valued and where our work could impact not just the company, but the world around us. A few short weeks after joining, we launched our first DEI Week. Fast forward to now, and we’re preparing for our 3rd DEI Month. It’s been an incredible journey, but I know we’re only just getting started. Let this be a reminder to plant the seeds you want to see grow. It’s worth the wait🌱
The speed at which things have grown has been nothing short of amazing. Watching our DEI initiatives skyrocket in impact has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion work has a ripple effect that extends far beyond internal efforts. At GRAIL, it touches our colleagues, customers, and patients. Our focus on health equity and addressing cancer health disparities shows how this work can directly transform lives, ensuring that early detection and treatment outcomes are equitable for all, particularly underserved communities.
The most rewarding part of this journey has been witnessing the collective commitment to inclusion. It reminds me every day that inclusion is a journey, not a destination—and that the titles we hold are borrowed, but the impact we make is lasting.
As I reflect on these two years, I’m reminded that impact doesn’t come from where you are, but from what you do. Cheers to more impact, no matter where the journey takes me, and to continuing the work of building a future where everyone belongs. 💫

I help people build brighter futures with better thinking. Commercial and strategic people person whose methods lead to better return on investment , enjoyment and legacy. Speaker, author, trainer, facilitator, mentor.
I’ve been thinking about the bonds and connections created through #sharedexperience.
On #ANZAC day, those serving or who have served in the armed forces gather today to reflect on their experiences and those who preceded them in various displays of commemoration.
That bond of shared experience is on display to the public observers at dawn services, and centotaphs in capital and regional cities, in tiny towns and district halls and through our screens.
Those observing together are also sharing an experience and creating a connection.
Shared experiences come in all shapes and sizes. Many as mundane as travelling on the same school bus for six years or playing for the same footy and netball club or experiencing the generosity of special elders in your home town.
Each is experience creates a bond and connection that ensures.
Ever wonder why it’s so easy to pick up a conversation with a colleague or a school mate decades later- the bond of shared experience is the answer.
Many studies have pondered and proved the mechanisms creating connection through shared experience including a recent one from Dartmouth College, Hannover, New Hampshire in the US which includes a review of previous studies (link in comments).
ANZAC Day is also our wedding anniversary- 16 years ago we created a shared experience for those we cared about the most from our aging parents to our young nieces and nephews and our broad range of friends and family.
It was also a pretty nice experience for us!
This pondering got me thinking about how much I love creating the opportunity for others to connect or facilitating the opportunity that’s been created by others.
Whether it’s organising drinks in our garden, a silly competition st the golf club or delivering a keynote in which the audience gets to share an experience, it truly is one of my favourite things.
What shared experiences have created connection for you?
How can you create opportunities for others to connect through shared experience?

It was a pleasure to contribute to Autistica's Our World, 2030 film 🎬 Although I had a brief appearance in 1:30... working with Autistica was a dream come true 🤝 As an organisation, they provided much to my university dissertation and their work for autistic people in the resources that they provide as well as the opportunity that they enable contribute a lot to making Britain a more fairer place for neurodiverse people 🧠

MEMORIAL MUSINGS.
This being the week of Memorial Day, it got me to thinking about history, and how the world has changed drastically in some ways, yet not changed much in others.
Would you agree that the pace of change has suddenly sped up over the past five years, and many of the changes are things we could never have imagined a decade or two ago? Yet, in other ways, things seem to have come full circle around to how they used to be long ago.
Here are a few examples of some ‘new’ changes and some that have ‘changed back’:

What examples could you add to this? Let’s see how we can expand on the topic in the comments!

They say there’s power in a name, and that’s never felt truer to me than the day I was first called a “Breast Cancer Survivor.” It rolled off someone’s tongue with a celebratory flourish, like a victory title—an award for enduring one of life’s most brutal marathons. At first, it felt strange, almost foreign, as if I’d been knighted into a club I wasn’t sure I wanted to join. But there it was, a name that carried weight, history, and yes, power.
Names are more than just strings of letters. They’re anchors, tying us to identities, to stories, to shared human experiences. “Survivor” takes naming to a whole new level. It implies a narrative, a journey from peril to perseverance. It tells everyone, “This person has been through something.” And for many, there’s comfort in that acknowledgment.
To some, “Survivor” may always feel heavy, a reminder of trauma. To others, it is a badge of honour, a reminder that life won. I’ve come to see it as both. It’s a label that carries duality: strength and vulnerability, victory and the shadow of what was lost.
Yet, the name also calls me to action. To survive is one thing; to thrive is another. It’s as though the name itself is a challenge, a reminder to live beyond the label, to make each day meaningful. It urges me to be grateful but not complacent, to honour the lives of those who didn’t get to wear the name and those who wear it differently.
So, yes, there is power in a name, and that power can be complicated, but it’s real. Perhaps the greatest power lies in choosing which names, which labels, and which stories we let define us.
In this video, I share a little bit about my #breastcancer journey: https://lnkd.in/gVe8BPQT#CancerSurvivor
Happy Mother's Day!! I hope all the kids celebrate this day with their Mom & Families.
Parents, Your Siblings, and your immediate family are the most important people in your life, so, do take the time to spend time with them at every opportunity. As once those precious times are gone, they will never come back.
Time never stops for anyone.
