The New Symbiotic Workinglife? The World is a shrinking place but still diverse enough to have widely different jobs. My focus is on the West. The experiences of the Pandemic and being locked down for weeks have changed people. There is broadly a huge reluctance to return to the office, although some jobs do require a physical presence still. Add in the complexities of life today and you have a maze of interlocking activity some paid work, some unpaid, some leisure and some education. It is Handy’s ‘Empty Raincoat’ in extreme. So many of us have portfolio lives, not just portfolio jobs now. The demands on our time, from paid to unpaid work, keep us busy. But what brings us pleasure, satisfaction, a feeling we are doing something of use. Grandparents do a lot of childminding, now the dual income household is the norm. Grandparents are generally pleased to hand their charges back at the end of the working day! Employers would seem to have two choices. Pay large amounts of salary so the employee has more free time, or make the work more interesting, satisfying and engaging, so people want the experience. Is it possible the future has arrived, and we’ve been too busy to notice it? One in five of the UK working age population is economically inactive. The rewards of work should have both financial and health benefits. Do you think your Grandparent organization is ready to make the transition? Keep smiling!

Do you have a passion for switching off and recharging? Lifelong Learning with #candokiwis Interesting fact: Switching off from work can be difficult but taking a proper break is good for your health. It's never been easier to stay connected to work. Even when we're on leave, our phones and laptops keep us tethered. Many of us promise ourselves we won't check emails during our break. But we do. Being away from the workplace, and even in a new location, is often not enough to detach psychologically. We might still be thinking about a demanding project we raced to finish or even feel guilty about leaving others to cover for us. Read more here on the RNZ website. https://lnkd.in/gbtTQVYH Can Do Kiwis supports the importance of lifelong learning through knowledge to help you find and develop your passion. By Wellbeing Case Manger, Beaulah Rose Is it even possible that we are once more at the end of another year? With the new year approaching, we can find that we feel under pressure to put plans in place to do more and do better in the coming year. The end of the year is a time when we are both focused on the present – holidays, including celebrations with family, and on the future and all that we want to achieve in the new year. As a result, we can forget to be mindful and reflect on how far we have come. Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dCgw65Vf #2025 #newyear #career

🔄👩👧 Returning to Work Post-Maternity First day back post-leave can feel daunting. Flexibility isn't just nice—it's essential. Having recently returned myself, I've seen the impact of considerate leadership and flexible work setups. They're not just about accommodating new parents; they're about sustaining performance and acknowledging our modern lives. For many new parents, stepping back into the professional world can feel like entering uncharted territory. The sleepless nights, the new routines, and the emotional rollercoaster of leaving your baby at home can be overwhelming. That's why flexibility should be at the heart of return-to-work programs. Employers who understand this are setting the stage for success - both for their businesses and their employees. Initiatives like phased returns, flexible hours, and the option to work from home are not just 'nice to have', but critical for a smooth transition What difference has workplace flexibility made for you? Let's share and motivate one another. #WorkFlexibility #FamilyAndCareer #ModernWorkforce

Happy Cycle to Work Day! 🚴 As a career coach passionate about wellbeing, I'm thrilled to celebrate Cycle to Work Day on the 1st August. Did you know happier, healthier employees are also more productive? Cycling is a fantastic way to boost all three. The updated Cycle to Work scheme is a game-changer for both employees and employers. It's a win-win: Employees: Save money on a new bike and gear through a salary sacrifice arrangement, spread out the cost with no interest, enjoy tax and National Insurance savings, improve your health and reduce your carbon footprint. Employers: Build a healthier, happier workforce, save on National Insurance contributions, increase productivity, reduce absenteeism, and contribute to a greener planet. It's a hassle-free way to empower your team to embrace a healthier, happier commute. If you're an employer, now is the perfect time to explore how the Cycle to Work scheme can benefit your team. And, if you’re an employee- it’s time to ask if this benefit is available to you! It's a simple, cost-effective way to invest in your well-being and your future.

September will mark the end of a flexible era for me (certainly not physically - I don’t bend!) as I move back to working full time Mon-Fri and I wanted to make a little appreciation post for the flexible journey of balancing a career alongside being a late-20s mother of 2 teeny children to a late-30s mother of 2 pre-teens. It’s been rough. I once came to work on 30 minutes sleep after staying up until midnight to make time for an actual conversation with my husband only for a child to then wake up at 00:30. My children have missed out on having me at some school plays and juggling summer holiday logistics from my desk continues to be a challenge (especially now they have their own phones and can nag me directly!). It pains me to acknowledge it, but I am sure I would be further along in my career trajectory now if I hadn’t been ‘doing the juggle’ all those years and having to make compromises across the board. I’m sure this is a familiar story for other parents reading this and we know the working world needs to do better here #flexappeal But it has also been great. I phased up slowly from 22 hours a week to full time over 4 years meaning I did get to go to lots of those special school plays, and let’s not forget all of the family adventures my salary has funded over the years, from trips to Peppa Pig Land to Australia (go, it is England in a good mood on a permanently hot day with better wildlife 🦘), none of which would have been possible if I couldn’t have worked flexibly. The advent of emails on my phone allowed me to keep an eye on both worlds on my days at home and MS Teams levelled that up even further. I am the best version of myself for being able to keep working and that benefits everyone. For everyone reading this on 30 minutes sleep… hang in there! They will be tying their own shoelaces and buckling their own seatbelts in no time, and you will be enjoying guilt-free hot cups of tea whilst booking your term time annual leave in a flash! #flexibleworking #balance #workplacewellbeing #productivity #presenteeism
