This story is bonkers–not a term I use often… or lightly. And it made me consider the winding path of attribution. As marketers, we spend so much time crafting funnels, building forms, editing CTAs and slapping UTM parameters on everything. We have this linear idea of the path from awareness to conversion, but how often does it work that way? Here’s the winding path that led me to this documentary: 📙 Read the chapter on Elaine de Kooning (and her husband, Willem) in Ninth Street Women. **This made the name recognizable. 🗞️ Read an article about a hitchhiker in the latest edition of County Highway that referenced the stolen de Kooning. **This made the story intriguing. 💻 Looked up news articles on the missing painting from the University of Arizona (kicked myself for not knowing about it when I visited Tucson last year). **This made the story personal. 🥸 Caught a glimpse of “Dennis Reynolds” (Glenn Howerton) in a fake mustache and I was locked in for the next hour and a half. **This made the product compelling. A new favorite from market, the Emerson family from Suzanne Kasler! It has the same forms as the popular Elliot series, but using large round core rattan as the base material. It's a lovely family! And I did not just say that because it's International Family Day. And if you think that I was going to make a joking reference to families and/or Family Day but stopped myself to not look like a fool, you know me too well at this point.
