Last week I went to the Remarkable Tech demo night, 5 start ups that had been through their program delivered their pitch. And honestly it was brilliant. I can't stop thinking about it. The opening by Matt Pierri was phenomenal and really eye opening. Did you know that 80% of disabilities are acquired rather than people being born with them? I definitely didn't. To quote Matt "if on Tuesday you love fashion, music and iPhones, and then on Wednesday you become disabled, odds are on Thursday you still like fashion, music and iPhones" The iPhone reference led to the fact that the touchscreen was invented by someone with a disability who wanted an easier way to press buttons. Inclusive design benefits us all. And the other key point was that only 4% of companies are thinking about how to include those who require modifications, so they can still enjoy and engage with the things they love, despite a staggering $43 Trillion in disposable income globally being controlled by disabled people and their families. Years ago, I used to sit next to a poster that said "If you don't intentionally include, you will unintentionally exclude" it was a great daily reminder. The 5 companies that presented were incredible: 1. removing the biases in HR screening software 2. guided physio at home via your mobile including real time modifications thanks to AI 3. beautifully designed furniture including grab bars that don't make your home feel like a hospital 4. the world's simplest video phone for those with dementia or shaky hands to connect with loved ones (winner of the night) 5. making payments and financial independence accessible to all You can check them all out here, and connect with them: https://lnkd.in/g9Dymmye A huge thank you to Kate Jenkins for getting me along. Other users can also access the answers, making luna a trusted, accessible health resource for girls seeking answers 🗣 luna provides age-appropriate, expert-backed content on topics that girls are navigating every day, from mental health and body positivity to nutrition and puberty 📚 Schembri-Stothart said, “what we’ve done is the unthinkable.
