For over 20 years, GAATW has examined and documented the obstacles faced by migrant and trafficked women who are seeking justice, especially within the judicial systems that discriminate against them. Our latest report highlights the continuing stereotypes and prejudices that undermine migrant women's rights. Drawing insights from consultations with women migrant workers from across Asia, Africa and Latin America, the report shows that stereotypes among decision makers about migrant women's backgrounds and work and/or life choices that prevent them from demanding justice. 𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗖𝗘𝗗 𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗥 Listen to Jackie Jones, former president of the European Women Lawyers Association - EWLA ❓ Forced labour remains a persistent and egregious violation of human rights, disproportionately affecting migrant women in the EU. Migrant women often migrate seeking better economic opportunities or fleeing conflict or persecution. However, upon arrival, they are often coerced or deceived into exploitative working conditions, facing threats, abuse, and withheld wages. The fact that they are isolated from their support networks, including family and friends, increases their dependence on employers or traffickers, making it harder for them to seek help or escape exploitative situations. Addressing forced labour among migrant women requires robust legal frameworks, effective enforcement mechanisms, and enhanced cooperation between governments, businesses, and civil society. It is crucial to provide migrant women with access to information, support services, and pathways to seek justice and redress. ⚖ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻: 💡 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙡𝙚 1 - 𝙃𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙙𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮: "Human dignity is inviolable. In my VIDEO intervention, available in the link below, in Romanian, I am pointing out that gender balance is not about organising a merit contest between men and women. It is, simply put, about the adequate, proportional representation of a majority of society - women. It is not about merit, it is about democracy! That does not mean that we should not aim to recruit the best of male and female candidates. However, before that, we must offer the context of a just, proportional representation of both men and women. That equals quotas imposed by law to political parties. I wish that more women, that all Romanian women, if possible, would understand and support quotas. A tool that is, temporarily, the only solution to boost the number of Romanian women mayors, MPs, local and county councillors, etc. We need women solidarity for quotas to ever stand a chance to become norm. #EgalitateDeGen #FemeiInPolitica #GenderBalance #PSD #AlegeriEuroparlamentare #EUElections #UseYourvote #WeAreHalf CMF 41240002
