In the aftermath of England's defeat in the first one-day international, Harry Brook's remarks about players' attitudes sparked widespread debate. 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 Back in 1998, Australian captain Mark Taylor became the fourth Australian to reach a triple century. At the end of the day's play, he was on 334. Incidentally, this was also the highest score of Sir Donald Bradman, arguably the greatest batsman to have ever played the game. When play resumed the next day, Taylor could have batted on for a while, declared later, and surpassed Bradman’s record. It wouldn’t have affected his team's path to victory (the match was eventually drawn). But a couple of things weighed on Taylor’s mind. According to reports, Taylor could have beaten the record if not for a good stop by Ijaz Ahmed. But since that didn’t happen, he decided to pull the plug on his innings. For Mark Taylor, having his name next to the great Sir Donald Bradman was his definition of an innings well played.
