With 'decision day' looming, you'll hear a lot of talk about who's going to which college. But the collegiate path isn't a foregone conclusion for teens. While some young people thrive in higher education, others blossom in apprenticeships, technical training, or vocational pathways. There are so many options to suit the variety of interests, lifestyles, and talents we humans have. Youth Job Center provides free training, coaching, and wrap-around support to eligible youth aged 14-25 who want to explore the multitude of professional paths available to them. (We can also help young people who know exactly what they want to do and just need a little guidance and support to get their foot in the door!) See what we have to offer at youthjobcenter.org, and spread the word to any youth, parents, guidance counselors, or other professionals who might want to know what kind of options are out there.

Apprenticeships are the gateway to skills development and skills enhancement. 👏
Mentoring Adults and Youth to be Successful in Apprenticeships through On the Job Training & Pathway Specific Education
The 10th Anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week is November 17-23, 2024. This year's theme is "Skills for Life". Today I awarded a Department of Labor SC Youth Credential - Patient Care Technician to Aubryn Courtney. She certainly has skills for life! 👏 Aubryn started the youth apprenticeship program while she was a rising junior at Hanahan HS in 2022. She completed her pre-nursing certificate at Trident Technical College while working part-time at Roper St. Francis Hospital performing patient care. Today is starting a new position as a Patient Care Technician at MUSC with plans to complete her BSN degree. Aubryn also told me that while attending high school she also completed a pharmacy tech certification. Now that is skills for life!!! 🙌 Congratulations Aubryn.

The TechForce Foundation's recent research on the supply and demand in technical careers found that diesel technician completions from post-secondary training have been falling since their peak in 2017, but rebounded 1% last year. The solution to closing the supply and demand gap is engaging with students early. Rush Enterprises, Inc has made an effort to nurture relationships with high school and post-secondary diesel programs, donate equipment and invest in apprenticeships from local institutions to address the technician shortage. 🛠️ https://ow.ly/1IaK50R72kS

When child care works, we all work. That’s because child care is an industry that supports all others: Families need reliable, quality child care so that they can go to work, support their families, and contribute to thriving local economies. Early Care and Education Registered Apprenticeship Programs (ECE RAPs) create opportunities for early educators to obtain credentials, learn while on the job, and receive higher pay. These programs improve the lives of families, children, and communities across Michigan. Read more about the current state of ECE RAPs in Michigan in ECIC’s new report: https://lnkd.in/e6pDAdYm #NAW2024 #DecadeOfNAW #ApprenticeshipUSA
