https://lnkd.in/eaBVAXxt I say this often on post with Black people talking about, DEI. We know without need for confirmation racism and implicit bias exist. We know, without need for confirming Blacks are the biggest recipients of racism and, implicit bias, even amongst other blacks. So what now? Do we post about it everyday. Do we go after people in power to, make them feel bad? No one is going to answer honestly about their lack of “real” effort on Black issues. The last day of Black History Month and I have yet to get one response. So what are we doing now? Dear Black people, Because we won't build together we still remain like lap dogs to theose people and media companies that dont look like us. Almost all black filmakers still have a master/slave relationship with these people that has created serious mental illness for our people. We could make much more money than we get from white media and distributors but we just cant get away from them. There is still a subconscious dependency. They create the inequality that has most of us living in a bad financial condition and this is entirely by design. They know that we wont organize and they use that to their advantage. They know most of us will accept their money for the films we make....because they know and depend on the fact that we wont organize. If we did we could make 10x the money. Many ponder the significance of Black inclusion in the UK - well, todays headlines answers the question. Where the colour of power remains a pressing issue, as those who wield influence get away with overt racism and hate. The pervasive challenges of gender and colourism intertwined disproportionately affecting black women and black communities more broadly in the UK. These dynamics manifest prominently in the workplace, evident in the persistent concrete ceilings and hateful verbal firing squad faced by many. A glance at the BAME spectrum reveals stark discrepancies in workforce metrics, particularly concerning outcomes for black individuals. As we approach Black Inclusion Week in May, themed "Empowered for Change: Building a Better Future Together," aimed at prompting introspection on both organizational and personal levels. Today's headline discourse highlights the need for bravery and accountability, as some chose silence in the face of reprehensible remarks directed at Diane Abbott, the first black female MP by Frank Hester. To those actively engaged in supporting, celebrating, and amplifying the voices of black individuals, We Salute you - Your dedication is commendable and crucial in fostering black equity and inclusion. On the insidious effects of racism "Stamped from the Beginning" is a Netflix documentary based on historian Ibram X. Kendi's bestseller book that shines a spotlight on the history of racist ideas in America. It kickoffs with a seemingly simple but provocative question: "What is wrong with Black people?" Ideas, narratives, and storytelling matter. In like manner, our choice of words shapes our perception of the world, including relations between races. One key takeaway for me is to examine the words we are exposed to, and peel them back to peer what lies beneath. For example, all upstanding members of society will agree that law and order are important. Ergo criminals are bad and deserve to be punished. But do not stop your enquiry there. Ask the necessary and tough questions on the causes of crime, including the existence of structural obstacles, historic injustices, and societal prejudices, that keep certain communities vulnerable and disadvantaged. If one traces the enquiry far enough back to its roots, we are likely to have to confront age-old questions on power, and linked to that, on wealth, influence, and identity. To circle back to the question at the beginning, the documentary closes with a poetic answer of its own: “The only thing wrong with Black people is that they think something is wrong with Black people.” If we can throw off the insidious effects of racism on our minds, beliefs, and attitudes, we can start to reconstruct a society based on truly universal human values that bind. Or in the words of our Pledge, regardless of race, language or religion. #racism #publicpolicy

Really interesting to see the way people, organisations and institutions invoke anti-racism and black intellect when they want to maintain incompetence. They are way less interested in black intellect and anti-racism when it doesn’t serve their purposes. Way less interested when black students are being failed daily on our campuses because of racism. Even more interesting are the black colleagues who allow themselves to be used with the view that they are being represented. They don’t care on any other day. Why would they care today? Where ARE they when black women are being silenced in the workplace, making complaints, and getting terminated? Where are they when black staff are getting ignored every possible way for academic promotion? Where are they when black staff report bullying and racialised discrimination in the workplace and said black staff had to leave? Being anti-racist isn’t always inclusive… “You really wanna know?) Do you want peace? (How I get so low?) Then watch us in the street (Only one way to go) One protest for you (Higher) Three-sixty-five for me” - Kendrick L #givemeabreak

Hollywood was the entertainment Mecca of the globe for a long time and the architect of how people are perceived internationally by the zeitgeist. However, it was a small handful of men who crafted our images through their narrow lens to fit an agenda that only served them. Today we have access to the means of production, distribution and broadcast. This is a different landscape than has existed at any other time in history. SigmaCarta has chosen to take advantage of these resources to establish a television platform specifically aimed at a Black male global audience. As an underserved and thereby unimportant audience, we're making Black men our priority market sector. Black men are highly culturally influential through art, fashion, music and entertainment, in these disciplines we're cultural leaders. We fully envisage that by specifically and loyally serving our core targeted audience, the authenticity within the programming will travel well beyond our target audience in exactly the same way as music and film has historically. As the producers, writers and directors of our own stories we're no longer betrayed by charactures designed by external parties such as mugger number one or pimp number two. SigmaCarta explores the full range of who we are as men and hosts solution providers in our unscripted shows to enable the wider audience to adopt what the top echelons do successfully. Owning and curating our own image as Black men on a TV platform created for and by us is very different from being guests on Black targeted TV platforms that on the one hand are very comfortable effeminising us and on the other hand capitalising our criminality with very little nuance in between. Specific stories and solutions by us, about us and for us.
