"Internal pathways to #CFO #succession: broader is better The path to CFO is more varied among internally promoted CFOs. #ProfitandLossLeadership and #operations are the most common roles CFOs served in immediately prior to becoming CFO, at 25%, followed closely by group finance, divisional and regional CFO, and deputy CFO. The least common prior role is treasury and investor relations at just 7%. Stepping into #Leadership role brings in tremendous responsibility and not everyone can do a justice to that and not everyone is fit for it as well. This video shares the two most qualities required. I have been working as an individual contributor for many years now, and I have discovered various ways to continue growing and developing my leadership skills over time. One approach that came naturally to me was volunteering. Initially, I volunteered as a member of an Employee Resource Group (ERG) simply to stay connected to my company. Eventually, I took on a more significant role as a board member of the local ERG chapter, without fully realizing the responsibilities involved. I learned as I went along, recruited more members, and within a few years, I found myself in a leadership position on the ERG National Board within McKesson. This volunteering experience within my company has been immensely beneficial in terms of personal growth and learning. It has taught me to see the bigger picture and understand that not all professional roles have to be tied to titles or senior leadership positions. Even without a fancy title, your voice still matters. By actively participating and making a difference, you are valued by your company. This recognition, although not always in the form of professional awards or accolades, is significant. To those who find themselves in a similar situation, I encourage you to seize volunteer opportunities to make connections and expand your learning and growth. Instead of waiting to be chosen or waiting for opportunities to come to you, take the initiative.
