PRO TIP: Research festivals before applying! Once you finish your film, submission fees for festivals can really add up. There are websites that allow you to apply to multiple festivals - I like to use FilmFreeway.com - but even if you use film freeway, do your research! Check how long the festival's been running, what types of films they showcase, and if your work fits in. Otherwise, you might just be throwing money away. And don’t forget to set aside some budget for submission fees; it can get pricey, so plan ahead! #directorlife #movies #cinema #filmfreeway #filmfestivals

This really depends on your goals. Is your goal to connect with community and build audiences or to meet with agents and seek representation? You have to think about these. When you work on your film festival strategy, start with this tier of festivals. Look out for the “When” because that determines your premiere status. Then you want to look into niche film festivals like the Cascade Festival for African Films or the American Black Film Festival. Once these festivals respond look into your local film festivals. Also, set aside a budget for traveling.

📿On this day, September 20, 1946, delayed because of WWII, the first Cannes Film Festival began, and it became one of cinema's major annual #events. ⁉How much do you know about one of the world's most famous cinema festivals? Find out now by playing our #triviaquiz: https://lnkd.in/evuJgr3n. And make sure to share your score in the comment section! 3 LESSER-KNOWN #FACTS ABOUT THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 👉It Was Originally Created to Counter Fascism: The Cannes Film Festival was founded in 1939 as a response to the Venice Film Festival, which had become heavily influenced by fascist regimes in Europe at the time. The inaugural event, however, was interrupted by the #outbreak of World War II and didn't fully launch until 1946. 👉The Palme d'Or Didn't Exist Until 1955: While the Cannes Film Festival is now synonymous with the prestigious Palme d'Or, the award wasn’t introduced until 1955. Before that, films were awarded the “Grand Prix du Festival International du Film.” The design of the Palme d’Or, a golden palm leaf, was #inspired by the coat of arms of the city of Cannes. 👉Scandals Have Played a Big Role in Its History: Over the years, Cannes has been no stranger to controversy. From protests to film withdrawals, one of the most notable moments was in 1968, when the festival was canceled midway due to widespread protests in #France, including filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard and François Truffaut, who disrupted screenings in solidarity with the May '68 movement.
