Needs + feelings = behavior. Let me say that again... Needs plus feelings equals behavior. Do you know why your kids do what they do? All kids at all times are just trying to get their needs met. This is true of all humans. All humans at all times are just trying to get their needs met. It’s the motivation for everything we do, our needs. So, if our needs are met as humans, our feelings are positive and our behavior is then good. There are six core basic needs, five A’s and a C. The five A’s are: 🔸Acceptance 🔸Attention 🔸Affection 🔸Appreciation 🔸Autonomy The C: 🔸Connection Check out episode 7️⃣ of The Real World Peaceful Parenting Podcast to learn more about the anatomy of storming and why your kids melt down. Remember, underneath all storming is unmet feelings and needs. Link in bio. https://lnkd.in/gHiZxtPc

Thanks to Colleen O'Grady MA, LPC for having me on the Power Your Parenting podcast for parents with teens. We talked about the incredible pressure parents feel to make sure their teens are achieving and not missing out on any opportunities in their efforts to realize a good future. I shared how the principles in my book, SIGH, SEE START: how to be the parent your child needs in a world that won't stop pushing, can help parents through this stage of their children's lives.
