#Question - ? #nationalsecurity The question not asked and I am sure there will be a wave of justifications “Why was a redacted / vetted warning ⚠️ ‼️ NOT provided to Canadians”? - laws are often twisted in terms of protecting / defending organizations - but the law is also clear in #duties. As usual I think there could have been better sharing info with Canadians without breaching legal issues. Our mission is to provide medical care where it's needed most, but escalating threats against Doctors Without Borders staff in Port-au-Prince, #Haiti, have forced us to pause operations. We call on all parties to respect humanitarian principles. "As Doctors Without Borders, we accept working in conditions of insecurity, but when even law enforcement becomes a direct threat, we have no choice but to suspend admissions of patients in Port-au-Prince until the conditions are met for us to resume. Every day that we cannot resume activities is a tragedy, as we are one of the few providers of a wide range of medical services who have remained open during this extremely difficult year." The new HSE ‘Striving to End Tuberculosis – A Strategy for Ireland 2024-2030’ sets out a vision to eliminate TB by reducing health inequities and ensuring agile, innovative and collaborative working. While the incidence of TB is low in Ireland, there were still 226 cases notified here last year. Increasingly, people with TB are from under-served populations so it’s imperative we remove any barriers to accessing TB care. The aim is for Ireland to achieve the WHO End TB Strategy target of an 80% reduction in TB incidence between 2015 and 2030. This equates to an annual decrease of 6% in new TB notifications and requires a person-centred collaborative approach involving a range of stakeholders. I want to acknowledge the work done by the National TB Advisory Committee, chaired by Dr Mary O’Meara, and supported by Dr Éamonn O’Moore. https://lnkd.in/e5vv7SiS

Exciting news as the recommendations from our #HumOSCM Lab have been successfully integrated into Uganda's policies after two years of dedicated work on the emergency preparedness of its medical supply chain. The recent signing ✍ of the National Medical Countermeasures Plan in 2024 by all stakeholder ministries is a significant step towards enhancing global health security. ✳ This milestone achievement signifies the impactful implementation of our findings for a broader reach. Uganda's National Medical Countermeasures Plan is now fortified with research insights and empirical evidence to bolster its capabilities in prevention, detection, and response to public health emergencies. Kudos to the collaborative efforts that led to this momentous development! The Africa CDC Diagnostic Advisory Committee (DAC) has successfully completed evaluation protocols for locally manufactured #Ag-RDTs to strengthen diagnostic capabilities for #Mpox in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Meanwhile, Rwanda is preparing for potential #Marburg virus kit evaluations to enhance outbreak preparedness. In parallel, National Regulatory Authorities are finalizing key Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) documents for Mpox tests—an effort to ensure swift access to reliable diagnostics. This meeting represents a crucial step toward implementing practical, context-specific solutions for Africa’s health priorities!
