This week marked the midpoint of our first five years. As I was taking this photo I was thinking about the amazing achievements of this group of outstanding scientists in such a short time! Over 60 PIs spread across the whole country (one is actually abroad!) in more than 20 prestigious institutions working on #preclinical #mousemodels to accelerate the pace of discovery of both #diagnosis and #therapy in important #disease areas such as #cancer, #CongenitalAnomalies, #microbiome, #haematopoiesis, #NeurologicalDisorders, #MitochondrialDiseases #ageing, also developing new technologies to modulate #protein levels in vivo and generate complex #alleles using the most up-to-date #GenomeEditing methods. Over twenty years ago, OneVoiceMS brought together community leaders and elected officials to discuss leadership and build strategic alliances. Today, the Mississippi Black Leadership Summit (MBLS) continues this legacy as an award-winning annual event focused on leadership development to create sustainable communities throughout Mississippi. Carrie T. Harris, Founder and CEO of D&E, recognized nationally for her work with low and moderate-income citizens, was invited to speak at the 2024 MBLS, highlighting the organization's impactful initiatives sparked by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Since then, D&E, A Housing & Economic Empowerment Center, has transformed lives and elevated many partnerships by equipping underserved communities with tools for economic improvement. Key achievements in Mississippi include: ⬇️ - Assisting over 25,000 first-time homebuyers.  - Transitioning over 1,900 unbanked consumers to bankable account holders.  - Counseling over 20,000 mortgage delinquents with an 80% success rate.  - Converting 80% of welfare training recipients to gainful employment.  - Helping 172 teachers obtain licensure, with 34 pending.
