Donation of food is the greatest charity, but educating one which is even greater because food provides the contentment for the time being and knowledge, learning, education for whole life. Make efforts to educate only that person who is eager to acquire knowledge, interested, values education, learning, enlightenment. APHORISM (1) सुभाषितानि https://lnkd.in/gmmN86Rr

The Fred Hollows Foundation’s Work in West Pokot, Kenya: Tackling Avoidable Blindness Through Innovation The Fred Hollows Foundation has been actively working in West Pokot, Kenya, to address the critical issue of avoidable blindness. Through our eye health initiatives, we focus on delivering essential eye care services, particularly cataract surgeries, which are crucial for restoring sight to individuals who would otherwise face a lifetime of blindness. In partnership with MOH-local health authorities and community stakeholders, we are committed to making quality eye care accessible to the most vulnerable populations in the region. One of the key innovations we've introduced in West Pokot is Peek Vision technology, a game-changing tool that allows for efficient, community-based eye screenings using a smartphone. Peek’s portable and affordable technology makes it easier to detect eye conditions early, enabling timely referrals for treatment. By bringing screening services directly to communities, we are improving access to care and helping to ensure that no one is left behind due to geographical or financial barriers. Peter Milo-Cluster Director, highlights the profound impact of not addressing avoidable blindness, particularly in the case of cataracts. He explains that untreated cataract blindness often has a devastating chain reaction within families and communities. Children are frequently forced to become caregivers for their parents or grandparents who suffer from vision loss. Instead of attending school, they bear the burden of household responsibilities, which not only impacts their education but also perpetuates the cycle of poverty. Addressing avoidable blindness, particularly through cataract surgeries and early interventions, The Fred Hollows Foundation is not only restoring sight but also giving children the chance to return to school, families the ability to thrive, and communities the opportunity to break free from the limitations that blindness imposes. Our work in West Pokot is about more than just restoring vision – it’s about transforming lives, empowering communities, and ensuring that future generations are not held back by preventable blindness. https://lnkd.in/dKcDGcj3
