For our next speaker is Doctor Sophie Learned Rasmussen or Doctor Hedgehog. I'm very honored to be invited here to give the declining and wonderful European head sharks a voice at the European Parliament. So what I do is basically to work closely with the hedgehog rehabilitators, veterinary staff, treating hedgehogs, NGO promoting headshot conservation and the industry. I'm currently involved in around 22 research projects. Vast majority of them concerned with head shark behaviour, head shark parasites and also it describing the microbiomes and viruses of the head shog. So basically all the bacteria and viruses they carry to optimize the treatment of the sick head sharks and care, but also to prevent zoonotic disease transfers and inform authorities regarding well one health issues. We are causing the decline of the hedgehogs and we're responsible. And we had to do something about it. So we need funds for a dedicated headshot conservation research program. We need national or even central campaigns to monitor the population trends. We need support for international database because this collates information on threats to hedgehogs and inspires best practice for the rehabilitators. We need conservation campaigns to inspire citizens to create suitable habitats, hedgehog friendly gardens, access in and out of the gardens, and subtract biodiversity, the natural food items of the hedgehogs. There are already campaigns going on, but several countries do not have the funds and the means and the resources to run these campaigns, so it would be great to have a centralized campaign. We need financial support and legal and practical frameworks. For hedgehog rehabilitation to ensure the best quality of this conservation initiative. And I would suggest that we prepare an EU conservation strategy for hedgehogs as a nature ambassador, flagship species, because everybody loves hedgehogs, right? But everything we do to conserve the hedgehogs will also benefit nature in general.
