An epic photo of an Eastern Bearded Dragon hiding at our Alleena property. 🦎 This prehistoric looking creature was discovered sun baking on a post by the Wilderlands conservation team during recent monitoring of the property. A species capable of changing colour as an adaptation to temperature or behavioural response technique, it can be identified by the distinctive scale pattern of its head and often flares its beard when feeling threatened to ward off predators. Feeding primarily on invertebrates and small vertebrates, as well as plant materials, this lizard lives amongst the logs and trees of these landscapes. Although the Eastern Bearded Dragon is generally widespread, much of their habitat has been greatly modified, and the species has declined in many areas throughout it's range. Deanna Marshall and the Wilderlands team alongside Cassinia Environmental are working to ensure our Alleena project is protected forever. It’s thanks to supporters like Tasman Environmental Markets (TEM), Trace | Certified B Corp™, al.ive body®, Wildya, Elliephant, and many more that species like the Eastern Bearded Dragon can now flourish amongst this habitat.
