Today is World Hypertension Day – an important moment of reflection for a condition that affects 1.3 billion people worldwide. Hypertension is known as a “silent killer” as it has no obvious symptoms. In addition, up to 50% of people with hypertension remain uncontrolled and at risk of complications such as heart attacks, strokes and even death. With little innovation taking place in the last two decades, it’s clear that we need to do all we can to address these unmet needs and raise the bar for those living with hypertension around the world. Today, on World Hypertension Day, we are raising awareness about this silent condition, which has far-reaching consequences if left uncontrolled, including heart attacks, strokes and even death. It is staggering to think that an estimated 1.3 billion adults around the world are affected by hypertension and high systolic blood pressure is responsible for more than 10 million deaths every year. To drive progress in a space that has seen little innovation for almost twenty years, we must all do our part to acknowledge and address the unique challenges that uncontrolled patients face.
