Adaptive reuse can be a great boon for architects in crowded cities. Instead of demolishing the site and starting from the ground up, the existing building can be utilized to host the new needs of the site. While sometimes such projects can prove challenging, the successful reuse often makes for the more exciting developments in districts and cities - and honors everything that came before in unique ways. https://lnkd.in/gb6hkr2t

One of the main benefits of underground architecture is its energy efficiency. Underground structures make use of earth, which acts as a natural insulator, helping to maintain temperature levels indoors and hence eliminating the need for artificial heating or cooling systems. This thermal insulation is crucial under extreme weather conditions. Moreover, underground architecture complements the environment. By going underneath, urban centers can conserve green spaces, prevent urbanisation of the land, and preserve old buildings and architectural monuments. The idea of underground architecture has further promoted urban resilience as it enables protection against environmental hazards. Subterranean spaces shielded from extreme weather conditions are very appropriate for the placement of emergency facilities, thus persuading cities like Tokyo, which is frequently exposed to disasters, to think of underground structures as options for critical infrastructure and storage facilities. #earthsheltered #underground #greenarchitecture #energyefficiency #sustainablearchitecture #sustainabledesign #ecotecture

Skyscrapers and "super tall" buildings are a relatively recent invention, so we're still learning as we go about what types of issues these giant structures can develop over time. This article dives into some of those issues and how they can be learning opportunities as we continue to build higher and higher! . . https://loom.ly/vkLsulg #mdgarch #article #architecture #alwayslearning #architecturearticles #moretolearn

"It’s a different framework of thinking. It pushes you to do things that you wouldn’t have thought to do. It pushes you to evaluate spaces that you thought you didn’t like to see if you can make them work in a way that you do like. How little can I do to make this work?" Thought-provoking interview with architect Julie Eizenberg on the the importance of retrofitting and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. At SFN we agree that working under heritage constraints can be challenging but one that our team relishes in our commercial and residential construction projects. Often those buildings become your most memorable work. Via: ArchitectureAU #sfnbuild #residentialbuilders #commercialbuilders #heritage #adaptivereuse

Increasingly ambitious projects are coming to life within the global architectural landscape, where the goal is to build ever taller and more imposing buildings. While they symbolize a momentum towards innovation and global recognition, these projects raise critics regarding its environmental impact and disproportionate construction costs. These aspects call for implementing the sustainable best practices in the construction industry. #Webuild ...ambitious project and symbol of superiority!

Jerry Elengical: "Mixed-use commercial architecture is undergoing a metamorphosis whose roots can be traced back decades, to when considerations about public space, urban infrastructure and private development became increasingly intertwined. At present, these concerns are often reconciled through cross-disciplinary collaborations which aid in conceptualising multifaceted approaches to building in sensitive contexts. Recently, this approach has gained another tangible argument for its effectiveness in a project that blends mixed-use functionality and coastline protection measures in the municipality of Middelkerke, within Belgium’s West Flanders province." 🌿 **Passionate about Architecture that Honors Culture and Sustainability** 🌿 Hello! How's everyone doing? I wanted to share something that really inspires me. For me, architecture is more than just designing spaces; it's an opportunity to connect with history and the environment around us. Projects like *Townsville North Rail Yards* in Queensland, Australia, are a great example of how to revitalize heritage areas while respecting cultural identity and promoting sustainability. Here, old rail tracks and historic structures are seamlessly integrated with contemporary buildings, creating the perfect balance between the past and the present. This approach not only preserves the past but also respects the tropical climate of the area by incorporating local vegetation to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing landscape. The use of natural light, open spaces, and sustainable design shows how architecture can be transformative, connecting communities and promoting environmental well-being. 🌱 I'm inspired by how projects like this not only transform spaces but also positively impact the surrounding communities. Do you know of other projects making a difference? 🌍🏛️ #SustainableArchitecture #CulturalPreservation #ResponsibleDesign #Townsville [Link to the project here](https://lnkd.in/dmdiAtru)
