The Kids Who Can't Go to School A growing number of children are struggling to attend school - they want to go to school but feel like they can't because of anxiety and stress. The ABC's Four Corners team met with families battling the blame, shame and fear of missing out on education. Now more than ever, our volunteers are needed in the classroom. EdConnect volunteers don't and are not intended to replace core teaching and educational support resources. However, their impact on students can be simply remarkable. From core-skill improvement to psychosocial development, including improved relationships with peers and teaching staff, annual school feedback demonstrates the value of the program. Accessing the wisdom of older people, valuing their contribution in the skill development of a new generation through the formal education system, can’t resolve all the problems in a system under pressure, but it can go towards relieving pressure points that will continue to challenge this community as it does many others. Students in uniforms, within the supposed safety of a classroom, were engaging in unacceptable behavior, showing a blatant disregard for authority and discipline. This incident highlights a deeper issue - the erosion of moral values and discipline among our youth. As parents and guardians, we have a collective responsibility to address this problem. I'm not only concerned about the students' behavior but also about the source of their funding. Where did they get the money to lavish on such reckless behavior? Their boldness and confidence in spending money in a classroom setting, while wearing school uniforms, is alarming. This scene is both saddening and heartbreaking. It's time for us to take a proactive approach, engaging with educators, community leaders, and each other to find solutions. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to address this issue and promote a culture of discipline, respect, and moral integrity."
