🌬️ Increasing Social Acceptance of Wind Energy 🌍 A recent survey by Interreg Europe, an interregional cooperation programme co-funded by the European Union, sheds light on challenges facing wind energy projects. Despite wind energy contributing 17% to the EU27+UK's power demand by 2022, #publicacceptance varies due to concerns like aesthetics, wildlife impact, noise, and land use changes. To enhance acceptance, policymakers advocate for community engagement, equitable benefit sharing, and rigorous #environmental assessments. Different projects in EU's coutries, demonstrate successful community-owned and environmentally conscious models. Discovering Renewable Giants Amidst the Agricultural Fields 🌾🌬️ As we journey through the scenic landscapes near Strathroy, Ontario, we’re greeted by the majestic sight of wind turbines standing tall among the verdant fields. These modern marvels are not just engineering feats but also symbols of our commitment to a sustainable future. Did you know that Ontario is home to about 40% of Canada’s wind turbines? The Adelaide Wind Power project, near Strathroy, features eighteen 2.3 MW wind turbines, each with a hub height of 99.5 meters and blades spanning 55 meters. That’s nearly as tall as the Statue of Liberty! These turbines are part of a growing movement harnessing wind energy, a clean and renewable source that powers thousands of homes without the carbon footprint of traditional energy sources. In fact, the Adelaide project generates 40 MW of energy, enough to power around 20,000 homes. As these turbines rotate gracefully, they’re not just producing electricity; they’re preserving the beauty of our planet for generations to come. Let’s take a moment to appreciate these silent guardians of the environment, turning every breeze into a brighter future. #AgriGenius #RenewableEnergy #WindPower #SustainableFuture

🏴 Shetland is harnessing the power of 🌱 #decarbonisation technologies to create new opportunities for locals and ensure no one is left behind. Sarah McArthur reports in FORESIGHT Climate & Energy how this remote archipelago, located 170 kilometres northeast of the Scottish mainland, relies heavily on local resources due to its isolation. Historically dependent on oil and gas, Shetland is now embracing a greener future. With impressive innovations like district heating networks, the world’s first offshore tidal array, and the upcoming Viking wind farm, Shetland is leading the charge in 💨 #RenewableEnergy. The electric 🔌 #grid’s role in integrating these renewables is crucial. However, for this energy transition to succeed, engaging and empowering local communities is essential. Shetland’s transition from 🛢️ #FossilFuels to renewables is not just about energy; it’s about creating a sustainable economy that benefits everyone. Local expertise and infrastructure, honed through years of oil and gas operations, are now being leveraged to attract renewable 💡 #energy projects, including wind and hydrogen production. Douglas Irvine of the Shetland Islands Council emphasises, “We need to concentrate most of our efforts on what happens here locally.” As Shetland moves towards a decarbonised future, the community’s involvement will be pivotal in driving this transformation. 🗞️ Read the full article to dive deeper into the ⚙️ #JustTransition in Shetland 👉 https://lnkd.in/dhgD8EsJ
