A fascinating and at times frightening morning with IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Advertising) and their excellent Business Growth conference. Hearing Faisal Islam’s insight on geopolitical impact on economics. Seeing how agencies are using AI in practice and seeing two alternative AI driven near futures spelt out, one utopian, the other seemingly disastrous (two poles so far apart and with such potential implications that it surely shouldn’t be left to chance?!) Hearing how an agency moved up the value chain with focused business model transformation while keeping its lights on. Insights into how best to welcome Gen Z into the workplace. And last but not least understanding the increasing risks of the industry failing to seize opportunities to help clients participate/ pioneer in the fight against climate change…”action before advertising”. A really inspiring event, highlighting some of the many challenges agency leaders are having to grapple with, brilliantly put together by Joyce Kelso showcasing so much of the value that the IPA facilitates for its members.🙏
IPA Commercial Leadership Group Chair Christian Byron will get the #IPABusinessGrowth Conference underway shortly before we dive into a packed agenda covering everything from the agency role in sustainability, key steps for business transformation and much more. Here's a look at our incredible line up of speakers for the day.

In a world where change is the only constant, sustainable leadership is our anchor. 🌟 Today’s Sustainability Summit at Ethos with discussions on sustainability trends and transformative leadership was a vivid reminder of how each of us can play a part in crafting a more sustainable future. It was enlightening to listen to experts who are not just talking the talk but walking the walk. A heartfelt thanks to Maja Bosnic📍, co-founder of Claim.Impact, Anna König Jerlmyr, CEO of Arwidsson Foundation and Mersiha Causevic Podzic, CEO of As You Know for sharing your great insights. Lovely to listen and talk to James C. Rhee, the founder of red helicopter whose best-selling book is the #1 non-fiction book in the US right now (!) who is reshaping our approach to sustainability. So happy to finally meet you, James! Thank you Malin Speace, CEO of Ethos for your inspiring talk and for gathering stakeholders from different sectors to come together to engage in this crucial conversation. As we forge ahead, let’s remember that the essence of leadership lies in our commitment to the future, not just in the strategies we employ. Let's be the change we wish to see! #SustainableFuture #leadership #redhelicopter #sustainability #selfleadership #change

At the moment, the road to a sustainable future seems to be rather bumpy. That was one aspect I discussed with Steve Kenzie from UN Global Compact Network UK and Eliot Whittington from Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) at the conference “Responsible Business Europe”. Or to use a different metaphor: The headwinds are increasing – the tough EV market is one example, the current discussions about trade barriers is another. What we need now is the right attitude, a clear governance and responsible leadership: Yes, there might be more challenges than expected. But we stay focused on the bigger goal: integrating #sustainability throughout our entire business. Thanks for the insightful debate, Steve and Eliot!

As many companies are currently publishing their 2023 Sustainability Reports, we take a look back to Weinreb Group's 2023 research on Chief Sustainability Officers (CSOs) and their increased influence in the board room. One of our key findings was the increase in the number of CSOs who sit on the corporate leadership team — which increased from 41% in 2011 to 76% in 2023. In addition, 99% of the CSOs who responded to our survey engage with their Board of Directors through the Nominating and Governance (55%), ESG (42%) and Audit and Finance (22%) committees. Embedding Sustainability: A Unified Approach to Achieving SDG Goals Dr V Kovaichelvan, with over 40 years of leadership experience, emphasizes that sustainability should not be treated as a separate endeavour. Instead, it should be seamlessly integrated into both our personal and professional lives. By embedding sustainability into processes and metrics, we can achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) effortlessly. The key to doing less and accomplishing more lies in fostering system thinking, collective action, and alignment within our organizations. Thank you, Dr V Kovaichelvan, for these transformative insights shared during the online sustainability dialogue organized by SLX on August 29. Your guidance continues to inspire holistic approaches to sustainability. #Sustainability #SDGGoals #Leadership #SustainableDevelopment #FutureReady #SystemThinking

It was my pleasure to speak at Veralto’s Leadership Conference, in a personal capacity. We explored - how one can embed sustainability into business strategy & operations; - how to cater (or not!) to increasingly diverse stakeholder expectations, including those of global investors, and; - how there is no silver bullet to the many sustainability challenges we face, but rather a need for innovative technological solutions that therefore creates myriad business opportunities. We need more $24bn companies like Veralto, whose core business lines are attempting to solve key sustainability challenges like water scarcity & quality, sustainable packaging and consumer product safety to name a few - by virtue of which they have the potential to create substantial societal and market value. #sustainability #sustainableinvesting #ESG #VLC2024 cc Keesa C. Sustainability is core to our Unifying Purpose of Safeguarding the World’s Most Vital Resources™, so our Veralto Leadership Conference (VLC) wouldn’t be complete without a discussion of the many ways our sustainability strategy informs our work at Veralto. During today's session, Surekha Trivedi and Sylvia Stein moderated an energizing panel conversation featuring guest speakers Keesa C. Schreane, FSA, CAMS and Nikita Singhal. The panel touched on key topics such as managing our environmental handprint and footprint, building a culture of sustainability, and looking outside of Veralto for best practices.
