I'm passionate about female founders. And...I am one. I'm part of several communities of female founders. These tribes are life-affirming, practical, supportive, inspiring....and very importantly - they are FUN. I can be myself in these worlds. I'm looking at you, Hera Hub (created by Felena Hanson) and you, Like Minded OC (created by Inbal Claudio) and you, Bizz B*tches (created by Jazmin Cornejo!) I love supporting female founders, too. I mean, what's not to love? They've created something brand new. They've boldly stepped forward to say "The world needs this. So I made it. And I'm going to do all I can to make sure the people who need it, hear about it and get access to it." So, of course I'm in love with the Women's Venture Summit! 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀?    This question pops up when you look at this picture from our DemoDay.   Our goal at INiTS is to foster mixed teams.  Unfortunately, the reality is that female founders still remain underrepresented. That’s why we asked them all to come on stage as a shining example for others!   The Startup Monitor reveals that only 17% of founders are women.  So, I'm all the more pleased that our current SCALEup Batch has 27% female founders!   Indeed, this shows that our efforts are going in the right direction. However, there is still a lot of work to do to make it easier for women to break into the tech startup ecosystem.   What is also obvious is that there is a growing number of founders tackling climate and environmental issues. If we want a future worth living, we need these pioneers. They are the catalysts for positive change, pushing boundaries and redefining what’s possible.   At INiTS’ Demo Day #21, startups showcased their innovative ideas, providing a glimpse into potential future developments. One thing is clear: We continue to work for a future that promises both diversity and sustainability! With so much chat this past month or so about changes afoot in the Irish #startup ecosystem and #NDRC coming to the end of its funding next year, I thought it might be useful to give an overview of where AwakenHub & AwakenAngels sit in the Irish landscape, in case it's helpful to any #founders out there. "Put a woman on it" isn't a phrase you hear in everyday conversation. That's because I coined it with my #PutAWomanOnIt campaign. Once again, I've been tagged into a post where a man is using my content without attribution. Thank you, Ariel Serber, for being an ally and taking the simple yet powerful action of appropriately crediting a woman's work. Tony had actually reached out to me after his original post, asking how he could be a better ally and find more women to invest in. We had a productive conversation, explicitly discussing how LinkedIn's algorithm amplifies his posts while muting mine and the importance of engaging with and reposting women's content. I even dedicated another hour of my time after that to help ideate the event he announced in the post below. I've also tagged him into some of my posts to present opportunities for allyship through engagement. This behavior, however, is the opposite of allyship. Yes, producing events like his is important, but actions speak louder than words. Expressing a desire to lift women up while simultaneously pushing one down is incongruous. It's not hard to credit to a content creator, tag someone who has helped you, or share original work without presenting it as your own. If you truly want to support women entrepreneurs, start by giving credit where it's due. And while you're at it, grab some official #PutAWomanOnIt swag. 𝗣𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁 💪 5 months ago, I accidentally stumbled upon a topic I wasn't even aware of... It all started with my post "I want to meet more women" (I know the hook...). My idea was to improve my poor ratio of women to men pitching their startups to me. The traction it got made me aware of the massive funding gap for female-led startups - 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟮% 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗩𝗖 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻. But it also revealed my unconscious bias in my own investment practice. Which is very typical in the male-dominated VC industry. Although I had committed to investing in 5 female-led startups, I only managed to invest in one. So I started thinking about how I could make a bigger impact... Long story short. I met Jennifer here. 🔥 A true hustler who has dedicated her career to helping women that build. Seeing Jens' determination, we decided to join forces and 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 series that supports women founders. And here we go! 🚀 The 100 Women Founders to Watch are launching disruptive new businesses, driving climate action, accelerating AI, innovating across 20+ industries from femtech to space tech, and they’ve raised more than $1.1b between them. (...) But, for many founders who identify as women, there are still significant challenges when it comes to raising investment. Startups founded or co-founded by women raise just 10% of total VC funding in Europe, and women-only founded startups raise just 2% of funding in the US. Companies led by Black women receive less than 1%. This is crazy when you consider that 1 in 6 women globally intend to start a business, compared with 1 in 5 men, and that women are the primary consumers of many tech-based products – women control more than $30t in consumer spending, and that number is expected to increase to $40t by 2030!
