These 7 States Are Better for Retirement Than Florida Retiring to Florida has been the dream of Americans for generations, thanks to the state's beautiful beaches, tropical weather, cultural diversity and endless variations of unique regional cultures and atmospheres. But, the dream drifts out of the reach of many. The cost of housing in Florida has soared, with a median home value of nearly $393,000 well above the already prohibitive national median of $348,539. https://lnkd.in/eZFdJc4T

The Government’s Largesse at Issue: As we watch the government deny assistance to the Hurricane Helene impacted areas - bc they have drained all the resources giving aid and comfort to illegal aliens - my mind has begun to wander … Why are we continuing to give billions to foreign nations without helping our own first? Why are Americans last in line in our own country? Why are our politicians free to make a fortune off insider trading, when any other person in America would go to jail for it? There are clear political double standards being followed. When Congress retires - they take home 80 percent of their final salary for life … regardless of how many years they served! Military members get zilch if they leave before twenty years. These politicians are playing the Candy Man with these illegal aliens … seeking to buy votes, prop up an unpopular left wing party in America. That’s why they brought in 20+ million new immigrants. Let’s follow their rules! The military members who place their lives on the line for the country ought to take home 80 percent of THEIR last salary regardless of how long they stay in the service, and for the rest of their life! Spread the wealth to those who contributed in a consequential manner! Not just giving away America’s treasure to anyone who happens to steal their way across our border! One opinion. https://lnkd.in/e3zmTd82

“Good jobs change lives… they’re about letting you look your children in the eye, say everything is going to be okay, and mean it.” -Acting Secretary Julie Su ⛈ It was inspiring to be in South Florida this week with Saket Soni, Teresa Acuña, Valeria Treves, Mark Davis, LaTanja Silvester and many others for the historic signing of a High Road Training Partnership agreement between The Families and Workers Fund grantee Resilience Force and two companies, PuroClean and Signal Restoration Services. This work is also supported by a demonstration grant from U.S. Department of Labor, and it will kick off by training 1,000 new restoration and reconstruction workers going into the 2024 hurricane season -- all of whom will see a major increase in their skills and pay. ♨ In addition, I joined our grantee WeCount!’s and Operating Engineers Local 487 for their event on the impacts on extreme heat -- a rising threat due to climate change -- and the dangerous working conditions many outdoor workers are facing in agriculture, construction, and more in Florida. 🧗♀️ A huge highlight was hearing testimony directly from many workers about the major improvements in their own lives that they experienced when working for companies that invest in them, their training, and their safety and health. Shout out to our very own Essential Leaders Council members who supported their co workers in sharing their stories with media and local leaders! 💗 I also want to shout out Mark Davis who teared up when sharing his own story about when he discovered wage theft happening with a sub to his sub-contractor and the steps he took, with the help of Resilience Force, to correct this and become a champion for good jobs and workforce investment. It is so rare for a CEO to share not only positive stories (and Mark has many of those!), but also hard stories. Yet, it's in those moments where leadership is truly made.
