This research reveals a strong basis to engage in truth-telling, with many open to be convinced... By demonstrating the value of this type of process even more will be convinced. That's why at the Alice Springs Meeting Place we are actively working to support truth-telling events and processes led by local Arrernte people in Alice Springs. We have a truth-telling mapping exercise underway right now, and we look forward to continuing to use Adelaide House as a site for telling these stories in Alice and beyond. It has been humbling for us to hear First Peoples' focus on stories of strength and connection. That strength and resilience is the truth that the nation needs to hear, even as we remember the histories that are deeply challenging. Truth-telling changes things, for the better.
In May 2024, our most recent survey of Australians revealed that 55% of Australians support a process of truth-telling about the history of injustices experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands people. (2024 Australian Community Survey by NCLS Research)
