Can We Rewrite the Past? Have you ever held onto regrets that they felt like a weight dragging you down? In a story I came across in a show, the main character was haunted by a past mistake. He replayed the events over and over, consumed by regrets and guilt. He wished to go back and change everything. His wish came true. He returned to the past, determined to prevent the painful situation. But as he intervened, things spiraled out of control. His attempts to rewrite history backfired, leaving him worse off. This story teaches us a valuable lesson: sometimes, the past is a complex web of actions and reactions. It is important to accept that we cannot change the past. We need to focus on what we can control: our present actions and future choices. 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 In our professional lives, past decisions can impact the present. Don’t lose your sense of raw belief. I have a new friend who happens to be the co-founder of her own company. We were talking about her company’s origin story the other day: she was living in country A (working a full time job!) but flying to countries B, C and D to sell a product that meant doing physical tours in country E. Selling a product that didn’t yet exist. A product that required a lot of logistics. Delivered in a country she’d never even lived in. Without funding. Driven by a vision for what her company could be. Years later it’s now well-and-truly reaching that vision. This reminded me of the early days of Vero: sleeping in the same room as James Lamont and selling what was essentially thin air half-coded by me—I couldn’t really code!—to people on the other side of the world because we believed we could. Aside from my friend reinspiring me and deserving to be extraordinarily proud of herself, one takeaway from this story is the reminder to dig for that sense of belief when you need it. It takes courage, and a little naivety. As a company grows and time passes you have more to lose: a reputation, external expectations on what you can deliver, even just contentment. And that’s the reward. But sometimes you need to dig deep and find that sense of raw belief. It can drive you to do things you never thought you could!
