Accountability is a life truth that we must all come to terms with. It may be a hard pill to swallow, but at some point, we made decisions that led to our current reality. Watching 'The Kite Runner' at the Lowry in Salford Quays yesterday reminded me of this profound lesson. When we understand that the fault lies with us and not external forces, we become unstoppable. If we're not where we want to be in our career, we're accountable. If we're not earning as much as we'd like, we're accountable. If we wish we had a better physique, we're accountable. Remember, accountability is key to taking charge of our lives and achieving our goals. You are in control of your outcomes, so act like it. Take ownership of your actions, and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve.

8 Macro Lessons from My Career…Thus Far Lesson #4 - Know Your Role and Do It Well The core aspect of your job should always be primary in your mind and your main focus. Use American football as our example, if you are the Offensive Coordinator, you had better coordinate all aspects of the offense at a high level, consistent with the Head Coach’s philosophy. You are not the Defensive Coordinator. You are not the General Manager. You may have opinions of those duties and how well they are being performed. You may even be asked to speak into those roles at times. But never lose sight of your main role and doing that role at a high level. If do lose focus, it’s sideways energy, at best, and can lead to destructive consequences, at worse.

Reflecting on my journey as a leader, I am reminded of the profound impact  we can have on others. On my last day at Lufkin Industries, an employee  approached me with words that truly touched my heart. He told me how  much it meant to him that I gave him a chance and offered him a job when  he needed it most. He shared how this opportunity changed his life,  providing not only a stable income but also a sense of purpose and  confidence he hadn't felt before. This encounter reaffirmed my belief in the power of leadership and the  importance of seeing potential in others. It's not just about hitting targets or driving productivity; it's about lifting people up, believing in them, and  giving them the tools to succeed. Knowing that I was able to make a  difference in his life is a reminder of why I do what I do. To all the leaders out there: never underestimate the impact you have on  your team. A small act of faith in someone can transform their entire future. Here's to making a positive difference, one person at a time.
