Today is a very special day for Djassi Africa, as we officially announce our new Afropreneurs Brasil Fellowship and reveal our powerful cohort of 25 Fellows! We’ve been planning Djassi Africa’s entry in the Brazilian startup and innovation ecosystem for the past two years, and it brings us excitement and fulfilment to see it now coming into fruition. This is a strategic market for us, and we are looking forward to collaborating with the different pillars of the Brazilian ecosystem and giving our contribution to level the playing field for Black Founders in the country. We are launching the #AfropreneursFellowship to increase the presence, visibility, and success rate of #BlackFounders in global innovation and entrepreneurship stages, including leading events and acceleration programmes. It’s imperative to increase the representation of all underrepresented and underserved groups across these global stages, as the lack of diversity and equity is costing entrepreneurship ecosystems returns, talent, and innovation. This agenda is not about charity, but economics and humanity. Please help us celebrate these 25 Afropreneur Fellows, building impactful and scalable startups across multiple industries, and solving Brasil’s greatest challenges. There is SO MUCH to learn when building a #VentureCapital fund, especially for someone like me transitioning careers from engineering and entrepreneurship. Here are a few of the gems I've taken away from the Obuntu Foundation fellowship so far: 💔 Startups in your portfolio will struggle. Think strategically about when you need to dive in, and when you need to let go. - Vijay R. of 500 Global 🤝 At the end of the day, the strongest motivation for any of your partners is skin in the game. - Lewam Kefela of Partech 👥 It's possible even for a first-time fund manager to raise a large fund, if they have the right team with the right experience - Sapna Shah of Novastar Ventures 📊 Always balance investor and innovation optimism with cold, hard data - Surayyah Ahmad Sani of Aduna Capital 🧠 There's a tonne to learn, but you don't need to know everything right from the beginning. There seems to be an easy solution for countries that want more entrepreneurs and startups 😂 “Among professionals attending entrepreneurship events, T. gondii-positive individuals were 1.8× more likely to have started their own business compared with other attendees (n = 197). Finally, after synthesizing and combining country-level databases on T. gondii infection from the past 25 years with the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor of entrepreneurial activity, we found that infection prevalence was a consistent, positive predictor of entrepreneurial activity and intentions at the national scale, regardless of whether previously identified economic covariates were included. Nations with higher infection also had a lower fraction of respondents citing 'fear of failure' in inhibiting new business ventures. “ https://lnkd.in/dHwAV_YJ
