This small campaign by the Otago Daily Times was a pleasure to contribute to and I’ve really enjoyed snippets of gold from others. Everyone has a unique view of the world and perspective of how they tackle challenges. Sometimes simply saying things in different ways will resonate with different people. My favorite bits from a range of contributors that resonate with me not just as a farmer but as a human doing life. 👉”If we really focus on what we can control we will find that our resilience in both business and personal lives will be stronger”💪💪 👉 “In order to thrive into the future it’s important that we hold our value in our strengths rather than what we have always done” 📈 👉”The secret of resilience is to go forth and meet each day as it comes making changes where we can and letting go where we can’t”☀️ 👉”Connection, giving learning and gratitude also exercise- making time for exercise always helps lift the mood.”🧘♀️🏃 👉(mine because I need to keep reminding myself)”Keeping it human- confidence in our own critical thinking but also seeking perspectives from trusted peers while balancing this with the benifits of modern technology.”👧🤖📲 This initiative is not a catchy headline that grabs all the attention. Honestly, when this happens it makes me wary of opinion media. But what this does is bring forward valuable life learning and perspectives- in an age when we are flooded with opinionism that can build threat and fear in our communities I hope some of these managed to resonate with a few😊😊

This #NationalCooperativeMonth, we’re celebrating all the things that make cooperatives special. At DFA, we’re farmer-owned and farmer-governed — it’s what makes us truly unique! So, what does being a farmer-owner of DFA mean? Our more than 10,000 farmer-owners across the nation are each invested in and own our Cooperative. Ownership means they can participate in our grassroots governance process that gives them a voice to help shape our future. There are hundreds of leadership opportunities for our farmer-owners to get involved, starting in their own communities. Many decisions in the Cooperative are made locally, ensuring that they reflect the unique needs and insights of our farmer-owners in each region. This makes our process a true grassroots effort. When farmers from the same region come together to lead the Cooperative they’re invested in, they can better react to their specific issues and challenges, learn together and build a community. Our Board of Directors is also made up of farmers — 48 of them from across the United States. They meet several times a year to discuss and address key issues that shape our Cooperative. Guidance from our farmer-owners ensures that our Cooperative remains true to our roots and focused on the needs of our farmers — first and always. We are #DFAProud to be owned by, governed by and here for dairy farmers.

It’s a long-overdue victory! For 40 years, the National Black Farmers Association (NBFA), founded by John Boyd Jr., has stood on the front lines for Black farmers. The organization represents the needs of African American farmers and their families in the United States, advocating for issues most important to them, including civil rights, land retention, access to public and private loans, education, agricultural training, and rural economic development, PR Newswire reports. Now, after a decades-long fight against discriminatory practices in farm lending from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the organization has secured a $2.2 billion settlement. The win is historic, brought about as a result of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) signed into law by President Biden just two years ago. Approximately 43,000 farmers will benefit from the payout, each receiving settlements of up to $500,000 the average awarded amount being $82,000. The fund will provide long-awaited financial assistance to farmers who have struggled to make ends meet while fighting against racism and discrimination from the USDA prior to 2021. The process was long and arduous, with a third-party administrator carefully evaluating each case and the application process extremely lengthy, exacerbating the frustration of farmers. #celebrationofus #melanincon #melanin #usda #fortheculture #blackfarmers

Watch as Chad Leman of the Illinois Pork Producers Association shares his journey from uncertainty to fully embracing NPPC's Strategic Investment Program (SIP). "At first, I wasn’t sure about SIP, but as I got more involved, it became clear how vital it is. As hog producers, we simply don’t have the time to go to the capitols and lobby for ourselves. We need NPPC staff building those relationships and advocating on our behalf," Chad explains. The SIP plays a crucial role in strengthening advocacy efforts and addressing policy threats that impact hog farmers across the nation. As Chad says, 'What you invest in SIP will bring great value to your farm today and, hopefully, to the next generation tomorrow.'
