I am reaching out to all my clinically oriented colleagues for your help. I'm currently working on a project for my Doctoral program in health administration, collaborating with a small team to explore COPD prevention. We're gathering valuable insights from clinicians (Doctors, Nurses, PAs, NPs, Therapists, etc.), and your experience could provide crucial perspectives. Our research on COPD prevention focuses on six key pillars: improving diagnostic access, addressing healthcare inequities, supporting smoking cessation, enhancing occupational safety, promoting holistic patient-centered care, and leveraging telemedicine. Together, these pillars aim to reduce barriers and prevent COPD in high-risk populations. The survey (see link below) takes about 10 minutes; all responses are confidential. We're not collecting any personally identifiable information beyond your role in healthcare, and the results will stay within the context of this class project. We would be grateful if you could participate. The deadline for responses is 11/17/24. Thank you for considering participation, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions! Thanks

What if the healthcare industry could measure success through the lens of patients' real priorities? In the latest from NCQA, the conversation around value-based care (VBC) takes a compelling turn toward patient-centric measurement. Too often, metrics in VBC focus on system-centric outcomes, but as this piece highlights, real impact is achieved when the benchmarks align with patients' personal health goals and lived experiences. By shifting to "measuring what matters," healthcare providers can create more meaningful connections with patients, paving the way for higher engagement, better outcomes, and a care experience that resonates on a human level. It’s time for healthcare to move beyond traditional metrics and redefine value through the eyes of those it serves. https://lnkd.in/e-MwEhZS #ValueBasedCare #PatientCentered #HealthcareInnovation

What an absolute privilege this week! NICE - National Institute for Health and Care Excellence - TAC and HST Committees and NICE colleagues came together in person this week, with a brilliant agenda, chaired by Radha Todd and Prof Stephen O'Brien. Making a positive difference to patient #outcomes and #experience deeply motivates all of us working in life sciences, health and social care sectors, and regulatory bodies - all centred on #listening to #patients. #Patient #participation has come a long way, with NICE leading the charge among HTAs. Of course, there is scope for significant improvement. We therefore had a panel session on 'Acknowledging the challenges of patient advocacy in HTAs'. Stella O'Brien kicked the session off with a call for #epistemic #justice, bringing her passion for advocating for patients always evident in our NICE TAC and her international work. Lindsay Birrell and Josie Godfrey, co-founders of Realise Advocacy, spoke on their recent #report on 'The Real Cost of Patient Involvement' that focuses on the costs to rare diseases patient organisations, with broad applicability. I highly recommend reading their report here - https://lnkd.in/eb9euPpK. Radha Todd brought her experience as a consultant medical oncologist in the #NHS and chair of #NICE TAC A. Dominic Pivonka brought a thoughtful #biopharmaceutical #industry perspective, helping broaden the remit beyond rare diseases. Mandy and Janine Wigmore shared a clear #path #forward, with NICE at the fulcrum. The message was clear - we can do a lot more together to address the current challenges facing patients and patient organisations through HTAs. 1. Simplify complexity (e.g. plain language summaries, incorporating patient surveys to HTAs) 2. Help prioritise the asks of patient organisations 3. Recognise and address resource challenges on patient organisation side - staffing, welfare, financing. Looking forward to the next steps together seeing these acknowledged needs being addressed via #multi-#stakeholder #patient-#centred initiatives. Having a seat around the table is just the start - together we can help amplify patient input now. Please share your thoughts - together we make a positive difference: 1. What policy measures can help? 2. What, if anything can we do differently in our roles today? 2. What other challenges on this topic need acknowledgement?

A recent study by the American Medical Association covering over 200,000 physicians across 396 organizations (primarily Epic users 👀), paints a stark picture of the time demands faced by primary care physicians in the EHR. The highlights: 🕒 7.3 hours in the EHR for every 8 hours of scheduled patient time. Think about that—nearly a full workday spent in the EHR! 📬 Physicians clock an additional 1.2 hours on inbox tasks per 8-hour shift 🌙 On average, physicians are spending 2.7 hours after office hours wrapping up EHR work (a metric common enough that we at Elation Health gave it a name - "Pajama Time") 📅 Nearly 21.5% of EHR time falls on unscheduled days, while another 20.7% happens after scheduled hours The burden is particularly high in specialties managing complex patients, like primary care, infectious disease, nephrology, and hematology. In the article, Dr. Christine Sinsky explains that the intricate needs of these patients demand extensive documentation, ordering, and ongoing patient-physician communication between visits—adding to the ever-growing inbox time. Yet again, the data shows an urgent need for technology optimization and design improvements to reduce administrative burdens, and we need to do everything we can to help physicians focus on direct patient care. #HealthcareInnovation #EHR #PrimaryCare
