In this video Major General Carruthers (Assistant Adjutant General Commander Florida Army National Guard) takes the time to explain and highlight the benefits of attending Final Formation. Please share this with a battle buddy who is nearing ETS and is undecided on reenlisting or leaving the military. Next Event is tentatively September 7th 2024. Please check with your Readiness NCO incase there are any changes. The Final Formation is an event organized by the Florida Army National Guard for soldiers nearing their Expiration Term of Service (ETS). This event offers a platform for reenlistment with exceptional benefits. Eligible soldiers could receive bonuses, although it's important to note that these bonuses are specific to certain Military Occupational Specialties (MOS). Please consult your Readiness NCO to see if you qualify. Additionally, the event provides opportunities to explore new units and MOSs. It's important to understand that attending the Final Formation does not guarantee these opportunities, but it is highly encouraged to attend. Attending can help you seek out any potential opportunities that could allow you to continue serving the great state of Florida. Furthermore, it's possible to address these incentives directly at your unit before attending the Final Formation. We strongly encourage you to collaborate with your Readiness NCO in advance to see how they can assist you. #nationalguard #armynationalguard https://lnkd.in/dGaZUpip

How in the year 2024, are our United States Air Force Airmen still dealing with issues such as BAH start and stop, promotions being delayed, and enlistment contracts being bungled? My niece and her husband (who recently graduated #Pararescue school) just visited us. My wife (also a retired SNCO) and I of course, as Air Force veterans and retired #SNCOs, asked all the usual questions: How are things? Excited about your first duty station? Getting your orders cut? Have to extend to take the assignment? You get your promotion stuff sorted out? You see the last question, I’ve been helping him work on since I attended his #PJU graduation back in December and realized he wasn’t yet wearing SrA. I asked then, what gives? The answer then: Something messed up with my paperwork. My #MTL is helping get it rectified. Several weeks, if not more than a month go by, I followed up with my nephew, they get your rank sorted out, and still nothing. At which time I pulled out my calendar, got a copy of his contract and did the Air Force math on it to determine his dates of rank. He should’ve been promoted to SrA back in November 2023. I encouraged him to go sit down with the promotions office to get it figured out. The Airman there agreed that the old SNCO’s math checked out and his promotion is past due, yet they can’t get it processed in “the system”. One of the issues: #MEPS entered his contract in as a 6 year contract, yet his paperwork all says 4. I have additional questions on how this is possible. All of this matters, because on top of his 6 month struggle to get his BAH started when he got married and was attending training, he’s now going to miss his normal window to test for promotion. Which affects Airmen’s already very small bottom line when it comes to financials. #SpecialWarfare airmen in the pipeline are riddled with these BAH debacles, so much, that amongst themselves they’ve come to the conclusion that, “this is just how it is”, and that they’ll just get it sorted when they get to their first permanent duty location. This couldn’t be a further departure from what reality should look like. My nephew’s other uncle who at the time was a #FirstShirt was compelled to reach out to his (nephew) Shirt and ask WTF. I reached out to then CMSAF JoAnne (Jo) Bass for help on this particular issue. She rapidly requested more information, and promised to look into it during her upcoming trip to San Antonio. Our Airmen already don’t make very much money, and coupled with being forced to live off the economy for housing, can create a financial struggle for young people. Why is the system failing them? Where are the SNCOs who should be tackling these issues? I sure hope that Ramón “CZ” Colón-López didn’t have to deal with this when he was a young PJ making his way. Our Air Force needs to do better! #NeverReallyRetired #RealSNCOsNeverStopCaring #MPF #CMSAF #MilitaryPromotions #BAH

It's all about the right team Yesterday was the 360th Birthday of the Royal Marines For the vast majority of us, the defining memory will usually be of the bonds forged during great, mundane and bad times This can be magnified in it’s significance after leaving and entering the civilian workforce Being keen to land a role for what we might view as a ‘great company’ can often lead veterans and service leavers to take a position that isn’t right for them We often knowingly enter the wrong firm but with the thought of ‘just get a job and I can sort out the right move once I am out’ But the shackles of employment and the self-conscious perception that we have to prove we got it right can often lead to compounding the misery of joining the wrong team with the knowledge that we have been in better teams previously Sometimes the badge of the firm can be enough to allow us not to do enough due diligence Easy mistake to make but one that can be avoided We have time pressure (sometimes real, sometimes imagined) to find that next role We see an opportunity that on paper ticks the boxes with a good company, so we jump at it We join the wrong team That can cost a lot of time, energy, frustration, money in the long run Look at the people, rather than the 'unit/regiment' Ask around and understand the humans you will deal with day to day, that is more important than the job title or the badge above the door

From The American Movers Association https://lnkd.in/eszahbz In a soon to be released statement The American Movers Association officially joins the Movers for America Coalition. We also call for a GAO study of the impact the GHC will have on the small businesses that make up the moving industry. In a recent poll of its active member 100 percent of the respondents have declared they will not partipate in military moves under the GHC. 80 percent of the responding have already moved away from Serving our military families with the remaining 20 percent planning on moving to other hauling opportunities . The respondents also noted the Number one reason was the SCA requirements followed by decimated compensation. We have ran independent cost analysis and conclude that Owner operator compensation will fall 30 percent below current compensation levels. If we factor in rising cost of doing business in the moving industry by 2025 the difference will be close to 50 percent. It’s the hope of the American Movers Association that Congress will take action to preserve the readiness, welfare and well being of our military troops.

Well that’s a wrap on another great Career Transition Workshop (CTW) with an engaged and fun group of 14 service leavers at Tidworth for Elly Cooper. I had some lovely feedback and comments. I love developing the cohesion of the group during the workshop in an open, trusting, respectful and sharing environment … and with no judgement. I love a good flipchart and pen too 🖊️ 😉😁 Everyone has the potential to do what they want to do in their life after the Military. It is about helping to unlock their potential. These workshops give service leavers a great springboard to their resettlement journey with so much information, resources, tips and tools … not to mention the great resource that is the Career Transition Partnership website. I have never worked in an organisation that provides this much or type of support to help you transition and move on in your career. When I took voluntary redundancy in 2012 it was just ‘bye 👋 ‘. Looking forward to moving back into the normal CTP Tidworth training rooms in a month or so after building works. Onto the next one in two weeks 😁 #careerchange #military #veterans #ctp #personaldevelopment

Friday Thoughts... At D-5 until voting, it has been a very odd & very busy week one way or another with interaction with budding politicians, City hierarchy, the NHS in Wales, GB Olympic coaches, Charity governance, exhibitions, AI understanding, Veteran activities, parades, an awards dinner, a summer cold and more worrying - veterinary surgeons for my beloved dog (a key member of #dogsoflinkedin) (...for another time!). So, notwithstanding the above activity, primacy has to be the fact that it is Armed Forces Week (#AFD24) in the UK - culminating in #ArmedForcesDay tomorrow - Sat 29th June. Some amazing activities have been showcased on linkedin over the last few days and very heartening to see so many employers in the nation demonstrating their understanding of the military community. There is still more to do, remember the adage - Veterans Can... So I was really glad to have been involved in the superb article by Kristen McGachey in her story for Financial News. She spoke with former members of the #ArmedForces who have made the jump into finance and forged a new career in the City. Finance firms in the Square Mile and beyond are increasingly hunting for new recruits among the 18,000 people who exit the British military each year and have launched a variety of schemes, work placements and internships to help #veterans of all ranks move into finance. I have been very fortunate to have worked for such organisations. From a #DEI perspective, this helps firms attract a wider pool of talent, but also gives them access to individuals with desirable skills, such as remaining calm under pressure and a willingness to get 'stuck in'. Veterans showcase intersectionality - the complex, cumulative way in which lived experiences combine and overlap and add value to any organisation. Many thanks to Northern Trust's Kelly Mullane, Wellington Management's James Bradbury, BlackRock's Osric Richards and St. James’s Place's Matt Corke for sharing their stories too. Please do reach out to any of those named if you would like to know more and enjoy the many events around the country this weekend! https://lnkd.in/erAFn_v7
