Happy Democracy Day to Nigeria! On this significant day, we come together to celebrate the triumph of democracy and the enduring spirit of the Nigerian people. Democracy Day, observed on June 12, marks the anniversary of the historic 1993 presidential election, which stands as a symbol of the nation's commitment to democratic ideals. This day is a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices made by countless Nigerians who fought for the establishment and sustenance of democratic governance. It is a tribute to the resilience and determination of our citizens, who have continuously strived to uphold the principles of freedom, justice, and equality. Democracy is not just about the right to vote; it is about the protection of human rights, the rule of law, and the active participation of citizens in the decision-making processes that shape their lives. As we celebrate this day, we reflect on the progress we have made and the challenges that lie ahead. We recognize that the journey towards a fully inclusive and participatory democracy is ongoing, and we must remain vigilant and committed to safeguarding our democratic institutions. Your little effort in your little corner can have a ripple effect on the nation’s democracy. Though we are far from the ideal democracy, everyone’s small efforts matter a lot. Each action taken to uphold democratic values contributes to the broader cause of building a robust and fair society. I am confident that if all Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, put their hands together, Nigeria will be the best place to live. This can only be achieved when the people, institutions (both private and public), and politicians are responsive and inclusive in all decision-making processes. On this Democracy Day, let us reaffirm our dedication to building a nation where every voice is heard, where diversity is celebrated, and where the rights and dignity of all citizens are respected. Let us honor the memory of those who have paved the way for our democratic freedoms by continuing to work towards a brighter, more equitable future for all Nigerians. I also use this opportunity to call on the government to strengthen democratic institutions and make these institutions more inclusive for all. A strong and inclusive democracy is the foundation upon which we can build a prosperous and just nation. #HappyDemocracyDay, #Nigeria! #Nigeria, #wehailthee! #12june #ProudlyNigerian

Today, we commemorate Democracy Day in Nigeria, a day that symbolizes our nation's transition to democratic governance. While we've made significant strides in consolidating democracy in Africa, it's crucial to acknowledge the challenges that lie ahead. Unfortunately, democratic regression is evident in some parts of Nigeria. The hijacking of party primaries by incumbent governors, selection of loyalists as flag bearers, and prioritization of personal interests over the people's will, undermine the democratic process. In my state, the ruling party's primary election has become a sham, perpetuating the interests of the few at the expense of the many. This is a stark reminder that our democratic journey is fragile and requires constant vigilance. As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to democratic values, inclusivity, and the empowerment of the people. Let us continue to advocate for a democratic system that truly represents the voices and interests of all Nigerians. Together, we can revitalize our democracy and build a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come. Dr. I.A Ngamdu 12/06/2024

Democracy Day in Nigeria, celebrated on June 12th, marks the nation's return to civilian rule and honors the democratic ideals that many fought for. This date was chosen to commemorate the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election, which is widely regarded as the freest and fairest in Nigeria's history. It's a day of reflection on the progress made since the end of military rule in 1999. This day symbolizes the collective hope for a future where every citizen's voice is heard and valued. It’s a moment to appreciate the freedoms that come with democracy, such as the right to vote, freedom of speech, and the ability to hold leaders accountable. Yet, it also invites us to think about how well these ideals are being realized in everyday life. Are Nigerians truly happy with their democracy? While there are certainly many who cherish the democratic system and the freedoms it provides, there is also widespread frustration. Issues like corruption, poverty, and insecurity persist, making it hard for many to feel the full benefits of democracy. Some feel that their votes do not translate into real change, as politicians often fail to deliver on their promises. Therefore, Democracy Day is both a celebration and a reminder that politicians must do better. It calls on leaders to uphold the democratic ideals they were elected to serve, ensuring that democracy works for all Nigerians, not just a select few. Happy Democracy Day Nigeria! #democracy #nigeria #june12 #africa #globalpoliticsffairs #news #todaypost
