It might be contradictory, but vulnerability is not a sign of weakness. Yep. Vulnerability is not a bad word. As Brené Brown, from University of Houston, affirms, vulnerability is "uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure." You need courage to initiate a business. The raw uncertainty of launching your dream. The risk of failure. The emotional exposure when seeking investors, or the strength it requires to admit to your mentor that you are scared, uncertain, or overwhelmed. It's an act of daring bravery. Yet, one that opens doors to deep growth and transformation. Showing vulnerability in a professional setting is often seen as weakness. Especially in a business coaching relationship. And I know two or three things about it. We relish in others’ honesty, applauding their courage for sharing their emotions. However, when our turn comes, we often jump back, fearing judgement or misinterpretation. "To feel is to be vulnerable," says Brown, and in this brave exposure of emotions, we foster connections, cultivate empathy, unleash creativity, and kindle joy. As a business coach (you can imagine it), I’ve witnessed the transformative power of embracing vulnerability. When my clients share their fears, doubts, and dreams, they show their true selves, and that's when we really connect. When we are most vulnerable, the real magic happens. Trust is built, connections strengthen, and true growth begins. Vulnerability is not the enemy. It’s the catalyst of authentic growth, the cornerstone of deep connections, and the heart of meaningful success. Let’s dare to be vulnerable. To unlock our authentic selves. To unleash the full power of our potential.

CHANGE DOESN'T FAIL ON ITS OWN, IT FAILS BECAUSE PEOPLE RESIST IT! All too often when people talk about transformation, what they are engaging in is transformation theater. They tell a story about a hero's journey—usually with themselves playing a starring role—in which there is some alternative future state and if you're good enough and you do all the right things, somehow you'll get to that place. That's a fairy tale. The true story about change is that it's a strategic conflict between that future state and the status quo, which always has inertia on its side and never yields its power gracefully. To bring genuine change about you need to undermine the sources of power that support the current state and maintain the status quo. Watch this video to learn more... .

🌺 Vulnerability 🌺 Growing up as part of Generation X, we weren't taught to show vulnerability. The mantra was to "suck it up" and "it's not that bad." Emotions were often pushed aside in favor of resilience and stoicism. But thanks to the transformative work of Brené Brown, we now understand that vulnerability is not a weakness—it's a source of great strength and courage. It's not easy - far from it in fact, especially when you have been hard wired a certain way, but that's where our strength comes in to play. Embracing our vulnerabilities can lead to deeper connections, greater creativity, and genuine leadership. All of which I am so lucky to have with the Outlook Australia team. Vulnerability is encouraged, from the CEO all the way to our wonderful volunteers. If you are not one of the 21 million people who have watched Brene's TED talk, I highly recommend that you do - to help, here is the link: https://lnkd.in/gcjTH7-a It's time we rewrite the narrative and recognise the power in being open and authentic. How can you be more vulnerable today? #Vulnerability #Courage #Leadership #GenX #BreneBrown #Authenticity

Ron Carucci points out the stubbornness of unwanted behavior and how tough it can be to remedy. Luckily, he knows how to. However, I'd like to offer one easy suggestion for CEOs out there to consider to prevent Ron from having to show up at your doorstep! The more power we have in a company, the more our poor behavior becomes an issue for the entire company. Unwanted behavior can be a slow burn that builds into a bonfire if you're unaware it's happening. Yet, how do you ensure you are aware? As the top dog, it is hard to find people within your organization who can or will safely call you out. Yet we need honest feedback because we'll often not realize how we are coming across, or how our actions are perceived. That is where an independent group of trusted peers willing to give it to you straight has a unique value. To nip leadership issues in the bud join a Peer Advisory Group.
Despite well-intended efforts, many of us struggle to maintain the new and improved version of ourselves. Pressures and triggers can cause us to slide right back into familiar, though unwanted, behavior. Whether it's angry outbursts, freezing up, or excessive control, understanding the root cause is key. Everyone of these behaviors we've struggled to change has an origin story. Until you know that story, you can't re-write the one you're in. Follow these four steps in my Harvard Business Review article to break through when other methods have fallen short. Interesting article by Ron Carucci. Destructive behaviors often stem from deeply ingrained narratives formed by past experiences. These “origin stories” act as biases, shaping our reactions and perpetuating harmful patterns. Without identifying and rewriting these stories, we continue to reinforce them. Uncovering these narratives can lead to breakthroughs where other methods fail, helping to change chronic behaviors like angry outbursts or excessive control. Addressing the root causes can pave the way for healthier, more productive actions, transforming both personal and professional lives.

One of the greatest things we can learn during challenges with team members is that our way is not the only way... if we have the courage to open our minds about the other person's point of view, we can grow as leaders.
Conflict, when navigated with courage and open-mindedness, can propel us towards groundbreaking solutions and unrealized growth. It's not about clashing for the sake of clashing but about challenging each other to become better.
