OUTDOORS IS THE NEW INDOORS Contemporary craftsmanship and design: bringing Gandiablasco’s outdoor furniture collections to GAN-rugs’s indoor spaces Architectural spaces that break down the barriers between inside and outside, so characteristic of modern architecture, have prompted a new way of designing with more open and connected approaches, with open views that blend into each other. Since the 1990s, our products have been inspired by this type of architecture, which shares much with the Mediterranean lifestyle, where the boundaries between indoors and outdoors are blurred, and most of the day is spent in spaces in between, such as porches and terraces. However, we were still in transition, without realising it. Interior and exterior realms have continued to have their own identities through furniture, lighting, and accessories, so the process of generating a sense of real continuity and the same aesthetic approach was not fully complete. A beautiful South African home with breathtaking ocean views. The existing deck, while spacious, lacked a statement piece to complement the home's natural textures. And, of course, we knew the perfect statement piece would come from a South African design icon. That's when we brought in Haldane Martin, a renowned furniture designer known for his stunning outdoor collections. Haldane himself even stopped by to see how his very first daybed worked within the space. 😍 For us, the key to success was achieving a harmonious balance. The interior spaces showcased rich textures of granite and rock, creating a natural, earthy feel. We wanted the exterior to echo this theme while introducing pops of colour for a bold statement. Furniture on such a large deck can make spaces feel even bigger and less intimate. The daybed's striking colour acts as a visual boundary, defining zones and creating a sense of cosy connection on the expansive deck. The result? A stunning outdoor space that seamlessly blends functionality with bold design, perfectly complementing the home's unique character and breathtaking ocean views.
