NASA’s Neowise satellite, which has served as a planetary defence mission for over a decade by tracking potentially dangerous asteroids and comets, is set to crash into Earth’s atmosphere. After falling too low in orbit, NASA engineers sent the final command to the satellite, marking the end of its mission. As Neowise re-enters, it will transform into a fireball, concluding its 15 years of valuable service to space exploration and planetary defence. #NASA #Neowise #SpaceExploration #PlanetaryDefense

NASA re-establishes communication with Voyager 1! When NASA re-established communication with Voyager 1, I thought it would be a good time to recognize the genius of the power designers who made it possible for the spacecraft to communicate after more than 37 years in space. Read more about this in a White Paper I presented some time ago. Griffin Mission One CompletesTest With NASA’s DSN🚀 NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory has successfully conducted end-to-end communications testing with Astrobotic's Griffin lunar lander, marking a vital step for the upcoming Griffin Mission One (GM1). This compatibility check with the Deep Space Network (DSN) ensures seamless communication as the lander embarks on its lunar journey, scheduled to launch in 2025. Utilizing antennas in Australia, Spain, and California, the DSN has supported historic missions and will play a crucial role in GM1 by enabling commands and data transmission. 🔎Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dwnrWz9H #SpaceNews #NASA #Astrobotic #DeepSpaceNetwork #LunarExploration #GriffinMissionOne

NASA’s goals for the next decade require a technically skilled workforce, cutting-edge infrastructure, and transformational technology development. A new National Academies report assesses NASA's critical needs in these areas and recommends actions to ensure NASA can achieve its long-term strategic goals. “NASA has overcome incredible, unique challenges over its 66 year history, becoming a fount of innovation and a source of national pride, but its biggest problem now is more mundane and all too common ― the tendency to focus on near-term accomplishments at the expense of long-term viability,” said Norman Augustine, chair of the committee that wrote the report. Great visualization
Super sweet post from NASA Ames Research Center on the Artemis launch. Their supercomputer simulations of the Space Launch System at Launch Complex 39B can give us a closer look (better than my seats) — my favorite is the little green person in the lower right corner :) What are Ames’ Contributions to Artemis I? - https://lnkd.in/e7dSS2wV #aerodynamics #aerospace #space #nasa #cfd #turbulence #engineering

A New Milestone in Lunar Exploration!🚀 In January 2025, Firefly Aerospace and Japanese company ispace will share a ride aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, launching two innovative lunar missions. This joint effort highlights the growing role of private companies in advancing space exploration. ispace's ‘Resilience’ lander, targeting Mare Frigoris, will carry groundbreaking payloads, including a water electrolyzer, a food-production module, and NASA's micro rover ‘Tenacious’. Meanwhile, Firefly’s ‘Blue Ghost’ lander, destined for Mare Crisium, will deliver ten science instruments under NASA’s CLPS program. This mission underscores global collaboration and technological progress as we pave the way for a sustainable presence on the Moon. Britain’s Astronomer Royal, Martin Rees, argues that sending humans into space, when robots can perform the same tasks effectively, is a misuse of public funds. He believes space exploration should be left to billionaires and individuals willing to finance their own trips. Rees, who holds a largely honorary title, suggests that with robots capable of tasks previously requiring humans, the rationale for crewed space missions is diminishing. He advocates for space travel to be reserved for those accepting significant risks, funded privately rather than publicly. While Britain’s space efforts have historically prioritized research over manned missions, notable Britons have participated in NASA and Soviet space missions. #MarsMission #space #spacetech #nasa #SpaceX #businessdor
