"My toddler will only fall asleep if I rock them, and I have to rock them back to sleep multiple times during the night." 🌟This is a common experience many parents share with us. Over time, this reliance on rocking can become even more challenging, especially as your now heavy toddler becomes accustomed to this comforting routine to fall back asleep. 💤 Many parents find that rocking is a comforting way to soothe their baby to sleep. As babies grow, however, they may start to rely on this soothing method to settle. 💤 Gently guiding your little one toward independent sleep is a valuable step that not only improves their sleep quality but also helps build lifelong healthy sleep habits. 🌙 💤Research shows that consistent bedtime routines help little ones feel secure and gradually ease their need for external soothing, like rocking (Mindell et al., 2006). 🌙 One gentle way to start is by gradually reducing the rocking time: try rocking until your child is drowsy but not fully asleep, then place them in their cot. As soon as they're in the cot, gently pat them to help them stay asleep. 🌙 Continue this process so each night they are a little less sleepy. Over time, they’ll associate their cot with sleep rather than needing to be held. 🌙For many families, this transition can feel like a big step.
