Finally, from my perspective to build this kind of building we need a solid foundation. I learned in my research mostly all over New York City was based on the rock zone area. It gives a strong foundation to build such a skyscraper firstly we have a very solid foundation. All things considered, the Brooklyn Tower becomes a representation of modernity, a place where sustainability, efficiency, and creative design come together. The project's effective integration of prefabrication and modular construction techniques not only accelerate construction timelines and cost-effectiveness but also establish the project as a model for future urban developments, highlighting the transformative power of innovative construction techniques. The Brooklyn Tower, a prominent landmark in the sky is more than just a structure, but is also evidence of the boundless opportunities that arise when architectural brilliance and inventiveness converge in the dynamic field of urban building.

Brian and I could be considered boomerangs with this move... So excited for this next chapter. For almost 17 years, Studio C has been working incredibly hard for and with our clients to help them achieve their own successes and that of those whom they continually serve so tirelessly. We're now so happy to re-join MG2 as it will help us to serve more people more rigorously, with the same intent and passion as we've always had on our projects. This is supposed to be harder than this. Typically, when an acquisition like this takes place, there are so many hurdles to overcome. How do we build trust within the group? How do we keep serving our clients the way that they need? How do we merge our ways of doing EVERYTHING? How do we do all of this while simultaneously ELEVATING our service in all areas? As many of you know, both Brian and I are MG2 alum. The foundations of what we've been doing all these 17 years is largely based on what we learned at the MG2 back then. While much of the technology and infrastructure in the firm may be different for us, "why" we do things and "what" we're attempting to achieve are very similar. We speak that same language on everything, which frankly is an incredible time saver. This is supposed to be harder than this but we're already focused on elevating everything that we do. Such an exciting time.

Thank you NLA for the Retro fit summit, and to shedkm Civic Engineers HUB RESIDENTIAL LIMITED The Crown Estate Gensler Buro Four JLL Common Projects for the talks and case studies. Must admit retrofit as a new type of project description is glossing over that most of us have been doing this for years as cut and carve or refurbishment but if it gives focus to retaining as many existing buildings as possible then I’m with it. The case studies were impressive amd the effort clients and teams will go to, to reduce, reuse and recycle. Good to see so much of Londons existing stock being refurbished. We should not only focus on the cut and carve and the structure issues but also on the simple workspace refurbishment and getting more clarity on the supply chain circular economy and clear certification of accreditation of new products especially M&E where the majority of the cost is. Most simple refurbishments throw away the old finishes and services and most of us I feel would push for recycled products from the circular economy if we had a database or some form of accreditation to refer to. Anyone agree? I liked the concept of architects redesigning the past, that struck a chord.

We heard exciting presentations on the best practice projects, strategies and programmes happening across London and the UK, and explored how we can achieve shared knowledge across the industry, the importance of engaging communities in #retrofit projects, and the need to integrate retrofit into wider stories of affordability, sustainability and placemaking. Earlier this week, Eric Parry Architects' Director, Robert Kennett contributed to a lively discussion at London Build Expo on the evolution of London's skyline, and how to successfully incorporate new skyscrapers into the Capital. Below are some key takeaways from the panellists: • Seventeen years ago, there wasn't a strategic framework for tall buildings in the city. The policy framework has now changed radically, as has the nature of tall buildings and their servicing requirements. • One of the most important elements of a tall building is how it relates to the ground with activation across all frontages. • We don't want to take a building's whole "coat" off every 20 years, so choosing all materials carefully and considering optimisation of the core is essential in considering any future adaptations. • Urban greening and providing a mixture of amenities for different communities is essential in creating humane buildings. From publicly accessible roof gardens to retail and workspace, this variety of uses ensures that buildings appeal to a more diverse range of people from workers to those who live and spend leisure time in the city. #LondonBuild2024

Loved being down in London yesterday and attending NLA's Retrofit Summit at The Guildhall. Heard some great speakers taking us through interesting case studies such as the The London Museum, The Elephant / 318 Oxford St, New Zealand House and Zodiac. Was pleased to also see some iconic Northern projects shared with the audience by shedkm and Civic Engineers including Fort Dunlop, Littlewoods and Park Hill. Retrofitting can be a cost-effective alternative to demolishing and rebuilding, however it can also present significant challenges (and costs) especially with older buildings that have outdated systems or poor initial construction (‘bad bones’). Some insightful discussions amongst the panellists with agreement on some key points: · A requirement for more consistent government policy as well as what actually defines Zero Carbon / Net Zero · More collaboration and data sharing across industry with the need for data to be richer. · Better cataloging of building information and materials used providing invaluable information for future retrofit. A requirement for a central place to access this data - more transparency. · All buildings need a strategy to decarbonise. · Not all buildings are fit for retrofit. · Retrofit requires passion, commitment, communication and a champion(s)!
