Since the past few years, the autonomous vehicle "AV" or automated driving "AD" market is constantly evolving. Some AV companies are scaling down its operations (E.g. Cruise, Motional, ....), some companies have shut down (Argo AI, Embark, ...) and others are adapting their portfolio/focus to address L2-L4 applications. The overall hype of autonomous vehicles has cooled down a bit with investors being more cautious, while other remain bullish about the opportunity to scale technologies in the future. In latest news, Wayve announced a $1.05 billion Series C investment round led by SoftBank Group. Current AI hypetrain is (will be) quite similar to what we saw with autonomous driving ten years ago. A lot of use cases get covered quickly and everyone thinks and says autonomous cars are just around the corner. Many millions spent and several defunct startups later it becomes apparent that the devil is in the details. And full autonomy will be achieved much, much later. Same will be true of genuine intelligence.
