FREEDOM TO CHOOSE: EXPANDING ACCESS TO LOW-DOSE MIFEPRISTONE AS AN OPTION FOR EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION. 💖 “A choice for all. Freedom to plan, power to choose.” 💖 This is the theme of this year's #WorldContraceptionDay. A day to celebrate #choice. To recognise #womensRights to make informed choices. And to remind ourselves of the importance of offering a range of options for women, so that each and every woman can find a safe and effective #contraceptive method that fits her unique life circumstances, preferences, body, as well as wallet. Concept Foundation is leading a project to broaden the range of choices of safe and effective #EmergencyContraception (EC) methods in low-and-middle income countries, by making low-dose #mifepristone for EC more widely available in #LMIC markets. Last week, our Senior Programme Manager Petra Procter shared the progress of this project at the 2024 International Federation of Abortion and #Contraception Professionals (#FIAPAC) Congress. 👉 👉 👉 Click below to learn more about this project, and how we work towards a world where there is a safe choice for all: https://bit.ly/4edzwoC #WCD #WCD2024 #reproductiveHealth #sexualHealth #SRHR

Anything that improves access to contraception will improve health and reduce disparities. We have a phenomenal team of family planning experts here at University of Rochester Medical Center, including a complex family planning fellowship. I asked one of our faculty experts to weigh in. Here's what Dr. Amy Harrington has to say: "I was thrilled to see the Biden administration coming out in support of over-the-counter contraceptive methods being covered by insurance. Contraceptive access is incredibly important and having methods available such as the Opill without a prescription is a huge step in the right direction. But, cost also limits access for large numbers of people. Being able to use your insurance to pay for over-the-counter options such as Opill, condoms, spermicides and even emergency contraception would be another step in ensuring contraceptive access and equity for all." While over the counter contraceptive methods are theoretically available to all, insurance coverage without copays will eliminate financial barriers that still exist.
The new proposed rule making more contraception—including OTC contraception—available without a co-pay will make access to birth control more affordable AND more equitable. Thank you President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris! Read our full statement: https://bit.ly/4eXufSI

On today's #THXBirthControl Day, we encourage everyone to share the ways birth control has positively impacted their lives! Contraception is a key tool to protect our health, freedom, and the ability to plan our own futures. When we share our stories, we remind the people listening how crucial it is to protect the ability to make our own choices. At the same time, we want to highlight the ways access to contraception is under threat as a new Trump Administration will put access to contraception at risk in four key ways: Restricting Title X Funding for Family Planning Service Providers Repealing the Affordable Care Act and No-Cost Contraceptive Coverage Broadening Contraceptive Coverage Conscience Exemptions if the ACA Is Not Repealed Mischaracterizing Certain Forms of Contraception as Abortion To access the explainer, How This Election Could Affect Access to Contraception, click here: https://lnkd.in/gyJYgRgr.
