GLAAD’s 2024 Accelerating Acceptance Study arrives at a monumental inflection point for the LGBTQ community and for our entire country. While #acceptance for #LGBTQ people remains at supermajority levels, the data this year also sounds substantial alarms about threats to this progress and to freedoms valued by every American. The same extremist lawmakers, judges and media sources targeting abortion access, contraception, free and fair elections, and free speech, are using the same strategies of fear and disinformation to undermine LGBTQ people and our equality. Fortunately, the data also points to proven ways to keep expanding and accelerating acceptance. Our study shows that more non-LGBTQ people have been inspired to speak up for LGBTQ #equality as a result of accurate news coverage, and voters have shown up in election after election to reject extremist candidates and their anti-trans campaigns. GLAAD’s Accelerating Acceptance Study should continue to inspire and empower all of us to rise up and speak out for everyone’s freedom to be themselves. Our #safety, our collective success, and the future of our democracy depend on it. Check out GLAAD’s 2024 Accelerating Acceptance Study here ⤵ https://lnkd.in/g4NujX2M

Are you familiar with the Lawrence v. Texas Supreme Court ruling? If not, you should be. Just over two decades ago, in 2003, the decision decriminalized homosexual activity across the United States! This landmark ruling was a paramount step toward equality for LGBTQ+ individuals and made progress in reducing stigma and discrimination. It also helped lay the groundwork for further legal advancements like the legalization of same-sex marriage – which was legalized across the US in 2015. These are very significant and affirming judgments that recognize the dignity and rights of the LGBTQ+ community, who deserve privacy, respect, and freedom. While we can celebrate our progress, it’s important to remain committed to fighting for equal rights for all. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dw2nHV4h.

The Threat of Dictatorship | A Call to Defend Human Rights and Equality. No one will survive. In the shadows of oppressive regimes like Myanmar's Junta, a darkness sweeps across the world, threatening democracy and human rights. Figures like Donald Trump echo authoritarian rule, while voices like Aung San Suu Kyi's are silenced. As tyranny tightens its grip, a few brave souls stand against the encroaching darkness, facing a harrowing battle where the line between hero and villain blurs. Prepare for a journey into fear and oppression, where the true horror lies not in the shadows, but in the darkness within humanity's heart. Under the guise of governance, Trump's administration has erected walls of division and exclusion, tearing apart families, separating loved ones, and perpetuating human rights violations that strike at the core of our humanity. The LGBTQ+ communities, in particular, have faced a relentless assault on their rights and identities, serving as a chilling warning of the dangers posed by unchecked authoritarianism. As the world watches in horror at the erosion of civil liberties and the marginalization of vulnerable communities, the upcoming electoral showdown in November looms large as a pivotal moment for democracy and human rights. The recent debates, marked by shocking rhetoric and divisive policies, have cast a dark shadow over the future of equality and justice for all. In the face of Trump's unabashed ambitions to consolidate power and dismantle the hard-won rights of marginalized groups, the imperative to resist authoritarianism and defend democracy has never been more urgent. The prospect of a second Trump administration poses a grave threat to the progress we have made towards a more inclusive and equitable society. Amidst these tumultuous times, the call to action is clear: we must mobilize the forces of equality and justice to ensure that our voices are heard, our rights are protected, and our values are upheld. With 75 million Equality Voters standing as a formidable force for change, the opportunity to elect pro-equality champions who will champion human rights and defend the principles of democracy has never been more critical. In a haunting dystopian narrative, the ominous specter of a future where democracy crumbles and human rights are brutally stripped away looms ominously on the horizon. The relentless grip of a tyrannical ruler threatens to plunge a new generation into a nightmarish abyss of despair, where mental health issues and suicidal cases spiral out of control. The chilling reality of individuals losing their freedoms, with no one spared from the ruthless hand of oppression, paints a harrowing picture of a society on the brink of collapse. As the iron fist of authoritarianism tightens its grip, the once vibrant voices of freedom of speech and press are silenced, suffocated by the suffocating darkness of tyranny.
Ahead of tonight’s debate, Trump’s intentions are loud and clear. He wants to be a dictator and dismantle LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive freedom, and our democracy. A second Trump administration would be detrimental for our progress. With so much at stake, we can’t afford another Trump presidency. That’s why we’re mobilizing 75 million Equality Voters to elect pro-equality champions up and down the ballot this November. Join us to defend our rights and our future: https://hrc.im/ShowUp
