We love hearing from our event attendees what resonated with them. Awesome reflection from Daile Stephens of Inchcape Australasia below. #womeninautomotive #womeninleadership
“We need to stop asking the under represented groups to solve the problem that they are facing,” was one of the key messages I got from this week’s Women in Automotive New Zealand event. Joe Consedine did a fantastic job of moderating a panel of people in the industry where we discussed how we can entice more females into sales roles. One of the topics dear to my heart is creating male allies to help increase the participation of women in the automotive industry. I am fortunate to have had male allies right through my life to help me become who I am today, from my Dad who still encourages me to keep pushing, to my male teachers and uni tutors, and my male managers through my career. And the biggest one of all is my husband who took on the role as Head Chef after we had kids and also had a one year career break after my maternity leave to look after the kids while they were still so little, all while forging a successful career of his own alongside me. One of the memorable soundbites was to “marry well” and while I 100% agree, I don’t think either of you should have to sacrifice a career to have a family if that’s what you want in life. I’d love to hear how you juggle it all - whose in your village or household that is your allie and supports you to be who you are and do what you what to do with your career? Share below ⬇️ 👇🏻 On top of my male allies we are also fortunate to have Au Pairs who I call my secret weapon. We have found them to be one of the more affordable childcare options given we don’t have family in Auckland. What/who is your secret weapon - do share!!! ⬇️ And for all the wonderful male allies who have made it this far down in my post - do you have any hot tips on how to support the rising women in your life?? Please share ⬇️ Thanks to Natasha Callister for the fantastic event, Joe Consedine for digging past the surface and Susanne Hardy, Russell Phillips and all the fabulous panellists.
