Women In STEM @ IC’s Post

Recently I had the incredible opportunity to run a workshop at The Tech Bros Startup Workshops held at the Google offices. This fantastic event brought together women in 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠 from Imperial College London with a passion for tech entrepreneurship, and I was thrilled to contribute by leading a session on 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝗩𝗣: 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁-𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. In my session, we explored the evolution of front-end development—from the earliest static websites to today’s interactive and dynamic experiences. We covered the basics of 𝗛𝗧𝗠𝗟, 𝗖𝗦𝗦, and 𝗝𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁, discussed how modern frameworks streamline development and even looked at leveraging 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 like 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝘁.𝗻𝗲𝘄 to quickly prototype 𝗠𝗩𝗣𝘀. The session wasn’t without its challenges—my notes decided not to display, so I had to improvise much of it. Plus, 35 minutes wasn’t nearly enough to teach front-end development in any depth (it takes universities months!). While I rushed through the coding portion, the energy and curiosity from the participants were infectious. It was inspiring to see such a hunger for knowledge in the room! One key takeaway from the session was that while tools like 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝘁.𝗻𝗲𝘄 are great for speeding up the process, they’re far from foolproof. It served as a reminder that a strong foundation in development is essential to troubleshoot and refine AI-generated code. It was also great to see my colleague Maria Stennett lead her own session, focused on the back-end, creating a well-rounded learning experience for the attendees.
