Scouts isn’t just about campfires and knot-tying anymore—it’s also about inspiration and building life skills, including igniting a passion for STEM! 🌟 This week, I’ve traded the laptop and suits at Science & Technology Australia for my scout scarf – attending the Australia Scout Jamboree (AJ2025) in Maryborough, Queensland as a scout leader, supporting over 10,000 bright young minds on an unforgettable journey. Yes, there’s plenty of what you’d expect from Scouts—abseiling, zip lines, mud runs, navigation, water adventures, karaoke, games, comedy/gangshow performances and construction. But there’s also a whole world of amazing STEM activities. And as you’d imagine, I couldn’t resist exploring them! From building circuits, citizen science projects, firing off rockets, 3d printing (including to create scout-related things like bushcraft tools and first aid training aids!), laser cutting, robotics, lego/engineering creations, coding to exploring the wonders of space and our world around us —Scouts continues to evolve, and is now helping to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators. Scouting has always been about learning by doing, and now it’s empowering young people with the skills and aspirations to tackle tomorrow’s challenges. These hands-on experiences spark curiosity, foster problem-solving skills, and shape future STEM leaders. Minister for Science Ed Husic MP, you’d be proud of what’s happening here—our innovators of tomorrow are already in the making! 👏 A big shoutout to the incredible volunteers making these STEM activities possible, especially Stephen Dann, Kaye North and Darryl Clare OAM MStJ who I spoke to and are running lego, coding and 3d printing activities respectively. Great job! If you’re at the Jamboree, don’t miss the buzzing STEM activities in the Discovery and Choice zones! 🧪🤖✨ #STEM #Innovation #STEMWorkforce #aj2025 #YourQuestYourWay #AustralianJamboree #scouts #jamboree #queensland #australia #scout Scouts Australia, Code Club Australia, Brent Juratowitch, Geoff Doo, Scouts Queensland, Brendan Watson OAM, David Cossart OAM, Fraser Coast Regional Council, Queensland Government

What research can have the greatest impact to improve quality of life of persons in North America’s Tribal Nations? WP#4, 2025 What research can have the greatest impact to improve the quality of life of persons in North America’s Tribal Nations, as well as Aboriginal people in other continents? Native people have been underrepresented in quality of life (QOL) research to mitigate health disparities. In the articles we receive from the call for articles, we wish to share information involving STEM education, health practices, mental and psychological research, etc. that if better understood it can contribute to quality-of-life improvement and a better valued sense of place. We are sharing this article call with our network in Australia because of the fine work being done with Aboriginal assimilation and economic advancement to understand any similarities. As a booted Rover and STEM professional (and Superstar 💫 ) I couldn't agree more! I remember learning everything from radios to construction with wood and rope at Jamborees 👏 it's fantastic to see how much it's evolved over the years.
It was so great to meet and chat at Jamboree! How awesome is this camp for young people. I look forward to connecting more this year. Bravo!
Scouts = practical STEM life skills Ryan Winn. My son had the wonderful opportunity to attend 2 Australian Scout Jamborees with untold benefits.
Oh that sounds so fun!
