While most of the formidable women on this panel focus on healthtech, Liat Sverdlov from OurCrowd focuses on the ClimateTech space. In my latest blog, I ask, "What's Climate Got to Do, Got to Do with It? I take a look at the intersection of climate change and health, highlighting several women's health issues impacted by climate and exploring some of the healthtech innovations that are becoming ever more vital as we see greater impacts on human health resulting from climate change. 🚀 Sustainability Conference by Trianon Scientific Communication 🗓 Tuesday 26 Nov, Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik invited four panelist to ask "Are We Harnessing Technology Responsibly To Fight Climate Change?" in front of women invited to The Nine. 😲 The Nine is a Women Networking place therefore in her introduction Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik stated the major difference between men superficial networking style and deep connections created in women networking. Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik also advised that women using men entworking style end up their career with 30% benefits than women using femine networking style. 📣 For the panel, Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik, the host, facilitated the discussion between women invited to ask questions to the panelists on theme curated by the host. Four panelists were invited: Dr. Pendo Maro, Caroline Marjorie Zaoui, PhD, Chipo Mbawu and Helene de Rengerve. Topic selected by the host ranged from forced labor, green technologies, impacts, consumers, supply chains, regulations like #csddd and #flr but also incentives. 🧠To end the conference, Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik invited the panelists to a thought experiment. She asks the panelist what they could advise to a startup proposing to produce a sustainable Nespresso like machine for tea bevarages. 💡The Startup owners were secretly listening from the back of the room, I met Vladislav Chats, on of them, during the networking drink. This gave me the incentive to finish my sketch noting to add the part related to their startup in the video. 🎁As a start, I was invited to have the privilege to see my wife as a speaker, for the first time in a conference. As a return gift to Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik I joined this event with my iPad and sketch noted live almost every bit of what you get in this video. It was created on iPad with Procreate, iPencil and iMovie using the Bikablo #sketchnoting technique I learned with Charles-Louis de Maere and Visuality EU. Based on our just ended event at the 79th Science Summit of the United Nations, here are General advices from our incredible speakers: Glory Oguegbu , Norah Magero , and Ndiarka Mbodji for women in #cleantech who are considering to start working on and implementing a project: 🎯Clarify your #purpose: Before you start, be absolutely clear on why you are doing what you do. 🎯Just start: Don’t wait for #resources to begin. Start working and implementing your ideas, and the resources will come. 🎯Stay committed: Once you begin, no matter how slow your progress may seem, remain persistent and keep moving forward. Small incremental steps are important in #growing. 🎯Plan for funding: Develop a #strategy for securing funding and apply whenever possible. 🎯Persevere through challenges: Whether you have funding or not, #entrepreneurship can be tough. Keep pushing forward. 🎯Enjoy the journey: It may be long, but it will be a #rewarding experience 🎯Partner, network and collaborate with other #organizations or #companies #womenintech #unitednations #capawic #innovations #sustainability #climatechange

So much food for thought in the keynote by Gemma Derrick at #VitaeConf2024 in Birmingham on research culture. The key takeaways for me were: 1. Researchers operate in an "esteem economy" driven more by recognition than financial incentives - 'If you make me feel good about myself I will do anything for you'. 2. Global buy-in is needed to truly change research culture - Whatever we do in the UK is unlikely to change researchers’ behaviour without this. 3. Culture always trumps strategy - Researchers are engaged in creating their "epistemic identity". This will always take precedence over institutional strategies or working conditions. 4. The "unburdened academic" ideal persists - This is the idea that research is a zero sum game, and having a family comes at the expense of research productivity. Sadly, Gemma's research suggests there is some truth to this, especially for women. 5. Universities (and funders) need to be realistic about what they can and cannot change - Culture change requires addressing socialized ideals and choices beyond universities' direct control. All of this resonates immensely with my own experience of working with researchers and research organisations over many years. A fascinating insight into - and warning about - the limits of universities' agency to influence their environment and the current 'arms race' of growing research culture 'management' and developing frameworks, indicators, measures etc etc about 'good' research culture. I wonder how well-received such a keynote was at Vitae...?

With technology and innovation unlocking nearly unlimited possibilities, what's more important is how broadly these breakthroughs can be scaled. What does this mean? There is theoretically no limit to how many people can benefit from a breakthrough. But systemic constraints often exclude women, people of color, vulnerable communities, and more. These breakthroughs will only come from discovering new ways of thinking and applying innovations to solve the toughest problems we face.

Making Progress for Women in Innovation 🌟 Recently, we held a series of Women in Innovation roundtable discussions—in Birmingham, London, and online—bringing together 50 diverse participants, including applicants and key stakeholders from across the innovation ecosystem. Hosted by our CEO, Dr Stella Peace, and Head of Inclusive Innovation, Emily Nott, these sessions were more than conversations, they were moments of shared lived experience and collective learning. Together, we reflected on our roles within the innovation system, how we can drive change, and inspire others to act alongside us. We started as participants and emerged as colleagues and collaborators, united by a shared commitment to a stronger, more inclusive innovation community. A big thank you to everyone who joined, trusted us, and shared their experiences. PROBLEMS ARE A LIMITED PERCEPTION OF SOLUTIONS THAT PEOPLE MUST AWARE AND CHANGE: Scientists like Einstein and Tesla said that the SOLUTION OF PROBLEMS IS NOT AT THE LEVEL OF CONSCIOUSNESS AT WHICH THE PROBLEMS ARISE, BUT AT THE LEVEL AT WHICH PROBLEMS CANNOT ARISE AT ALL. Problems, in this sense, arise AT THE LEVEL OF THE CONSCIOUS MIND OR EGO, and THE SOLUTIONS ARE AT THE LEVEL OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND OR SOUL. The ego is the SUB-LEVEL OF THE SOUL created by the soul to experience itself under conditions of limitation. This means that problems are LIMITED PERCEPTION OF SOLUTIONS. People create problems with LOGIC, and solutions are approached with INTUITION, for which all people have a POTENTIAL THAT THEY CAN AWAKE. Awakening the potential of intuition implies AWARENESS IN PEOPLE OF THE BELIEFS THAT LIMIT THEIR PERCEPTION OF SOLUTIONS. #consciousness #solutions #soul #equilibrium #jasnicaklaramatic
