Sometimes, the hardest conversations are the most important ones to have. Like talking about Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) being an option when diagnosed with dementia… BEFORE it’s too late.🩵 While MAiD has been legal throughout Canada since 2016, and dementia has always been a qualifying diagnosis, over the last few years my dear colleague Connie Jorsvik and I have noticed a steep rise in misunderstanding and misinformation about who qualifies, and about the process of applying and being approved for this procedure. This is why we have invited Canada's top expert and lead Medical Advisor to the BC Ministry of Health, the esteemed Dr. Stefanie Green, to join us in a rare online conversation about dementia and MAiD. Please register to attend ASAP - spaces limited: https://lnkd.in/gwjhqP9y Understanding Dementia and Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD): An Evening with Connie Jorsvik, Christa Ovenell, and Dr. Stefanie Green, Canada‘s Top MAiD Advisor Nov 21st, 2024, 7-8:30 PM, PST ONLINE EVENT (NOT RECORDED) Tickets $25 If you are curious, want accurate information, or if you or a loved one are considering MAiD as a future option, please join us for answers to questions that are sometimes hardest to ask. A request: please share! We deeply appreciate your support in spreading the word. Thank you! Addressing community health in rural areas requires a comprehensive approach that goes beyond traditional clinical care, focusing on prevention, education, and collaboration with local stakeholders. Rural communities often face limited access to healthcare resources, transportation barriers, and socioeconomic disparities that impact overall health and wellbeing. Building strong relationships and trust within the community enables rural healthcare providers to better understand and respond to the unique needs of the population. Addressing community health in rural areas requires a comprehensive approach that goes beyond traditional clinical care, focusing on prevention, education, and collaboration with local stakeholders.

It's rare I watch or listen to a podcast and am inspired. Remembering the word, "inspire" comes from the root, "in spirit", we can say my inspiration has its roots in love, which is exactly what this podcast speaks to: Love as a guiding principle in the leadership, management, and delivery of excellent healthcare. Apurv Gupta, MD, MPH, Stephanie Feals and guest, Erik Anderson of Adventist Health Castle go deep into the practical application of love in creating the excellence in healthcare delivery that wins a National Baldrige Award. But it's so much more than winning this prestigious award. It's about the love that brings together leadership, staff, patients, families and community. Together we're better, yes? The powerful principles that are the foundation of a great organization must now include love. For Adventist Health Castle: Love Matters. For Dr. Gupta and Premier Inc.: A Loving Organization. For 3DHealthcare: Loving Systems. I so love and respect the many kindred spirits who are working so hard to make healthcare better. Having said that, isn't it time, as the song says, to give love a chance. If not now, when? If not us, who? #ALovingOrganization #LoveMatters #3DLovingSystems #3DHealthcare
@erik-anderson-601a8591/, Patient Care Executive at Adventist Health, says from the moment he joined the organization he knew it felt different. He said he felt the sense of Aloha. Treating patients and employees like Ohana - or family - is in their DNA. Erik told us that like with any family, there needs to be trust, transparency, and sometimes even tough love for accountability, which is a two-way street. The team at Adventist Health Castle listens to the community and deeply values that feedback when choosing how to best serve their patients and teams. Their holistic approach includes community-centered events like Christmas tree lightings, speaking to students, and other ways that encourage the community to become a partner in their healthcare. Their commitment to clinical excellence combined with their “Love Matters” campaign lead them to a Baldrige Award win in 2017. To hear more about this remarkable organization, and learn more about how they teach empathy, value vulnerability, and “measure what they treasure”, check out the full interview with Erik: https://lnkd.in/eJe7qwmM Learn more about Adventist Health Castle: https://lnkd.in/e4FzbHVB Topical time codes: 00:43 - Feeling the Aloha 1:51 - Culture within the organization, Ohana 3:55 - Teaching empathy 7:04 - Love Matters campaign and Baldrige Award win 8:30 - How to connect with the community 11:28 - Community engagement 16:15 - Trust, transparency, and tough love 18:52 - Gratitude as part of Love Matters #healthcare #CompassionateCare #communityengagement #particpatorymedicine #aloha #ohana

Tomorrow, I will be attending the 𝐎𝐒𝐂𝐓 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤, advocating for proper cardiac care for all Ontarians. This cause is deeply personal to me. When I was 16, I began fainting unexpectedly. A physician attributed it to low iron, and the issue was left unexplored. It wasn’t until years later that I was diagnosed with a serious 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐡𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐦𝐢𝐚 (𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐐𝐓 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞), which, through participation in research programs, I discovered was genetic. Having my children tested led to the realization that my daughter has this condition too. The 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧, and it’s not something to take chances with. Proper knowledge and training for those performing and interpreting cardiac testing are critical. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐜 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞. Over the years, I’ve learned to listen to my body. Dizziness, fainting, chest pains—these are not signs to ignore. They could be your heart’s way of telling you something crucial. 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝. 𝐈𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞. I’m honored to lend my voice to this initiative and stand alongside the OSCT as we 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲. If you’re in Ontario, I encourage you to 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐏𝐏 (a template is available at www.OSCT.ca) or sharing the message. Together, we can make a difference. #Advocacy #OntarioHealthCare #CardiacCare #ListenToYourBody #PatientSafety #HeartHealth #hr
On Monday, December 2, the OSCT will be holding a press conference and advocacy day at Queen's Park! We are petitioning the Ontario government to ensure patient safety with Ontarian's most important organ, their heart. We are asking that the individuals that perform and interpret cardiac testing have the proper knowledge and training to do so. Currently, there is no legal requirement and these jobs can be completed by anyone. This presents several real, and potentially dangerous risks to patients; something they should have to be concerned with when they are already dealing with the stress of cardiac diagnostics. Please help us spread the word by writing a letter to your MPP (a template is available on our website, www.OSCT.ca), sharing this post, or joining us at Queen's Park! #important #mpp #legislature #OntarioLegislativeAssembly #help #ontariogovernment #petition #ontariohealthcare #RegisteredCardiologyTechnologists #CVT #ekg #training #ecginterpretation
