The global health community would do well to consider what should follow the SDGs. To build on the Summit's broad remit, with its 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 covering sustainable development, as well as peace, science, youth, and governance, and to move beyond lofty rhetoric, we call upon Summit participants to lead us towards a rights-based, health equity-focused, accountability-rich set of global commitments. One foundational piece of the next iteration of global goals should be a treaty grounded in human rights with the core aim of national and global health equity — now and for future generations! #summitofthefuture #humanrights #righttohealth #healthequity #healthjustice #activism

🌿 Nature-Based Solutions (NbS): A pathway to a sustainable future in the Pacific 🌿 🌊Nature-based solutions (NbS) provide responses to societal challenges by protecting, sustainably managing, and restoring ecosystems, benefiting both people and nature. 🌏As part of the Kiwa Initiative, three tools have been developed in collaboration with Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and Talanoa Consulting. These tools aim to help policymakers, practitioners, and advocates better integrate gender equality, disability inclusion, and a human rights-based approach into NbS for climate adaptation. 🇺🇳 We are at the #UNBHRForum in Geneva this week! Yesterday, one of the sessions we're involved in focused on the “smart mix of measures to leverage the contribution of financial actors to a just transition”. Panelists in this session explored key issues that we are also pushing for as part of the OECD’s Just Transition project 👉 https://lnkd.in/enHRzw3c 💡 Florencia Ortúzar Greene from AIDA highlighted the flaws in a so-called “just” transition that replicates a business-as-usual approach, with marginalised communities that continue to be sacrificed. She called upon financial institutions to ensure that money is being directed towards those communities and groups on the ground working on real solutions for the transition. 💡 ROBELIZA HALIP from the Rights Energy Partnership with Indigenous Peoples (REP) stressed the particular need to protect Indigenous Peoples rights, including FPIC. She called for more safe spaces for defenders to ensure meaningful dialogue with financial actors, businesses and states. ⚡ For the transition to be “just”, protection of human rights must not be undermined. The #OECDGuidelines are very clear about the rights of workers, affected communities, and environmental protection. OECD Watch is working with civil society around the globe to ensure these key issues are being included in the OECD’s project to provide just transition guidance for businesses. When it comes to environmental decision-making, women are under-represented. Including women in environmental policy making and implementation is absolutely essential, since women tend to be more vulnerable to natural disasters. Women and girls make up half the population of the world, therefore, their representation and involvement at all levels is essential- from policy making and dialogue to impactful interventions in small communities. Women can be powerful agents of change when it comes to sustainable development and climate action. Research shows that in countries having a high representation of women in parliament, there is more likelihood of ratifying international environmental treaties. #womenandclimatechange #genderequality #empoweringwomen
