It's been one year of war in #Sudan. 8.6 million people displaced. Over 14000+ women, children, men, killed, although it is suspected that the numbers are much higher. Thousands tortured, hundreds of women and girls sexually assaulted, and countless numbers have been forced to marry fighters for protection. Children are starved, and the country is on brink on famine. The war is relentless, and spares no mercy for civilians. Everyday is a downward spiral. Hala Al-Karib of Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network speaks with Al Jazeera English on the situation for Sudanese people and highlights that "women's bodies have been used as weapons" with sexual violence rampant. More must be done to stop the war and protect civilians. #ihl #keepeyesonsudan #crsv #sexualviolence #unscr1325 #wps NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) UN Women UN Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) Women's International League for Peace and Freedom - WILPF FEMNET - African Women's Development and Communication Network https://lnkd.in/gUCP7rP3

🇺🇦 New Brief 🇺🇦 from Nonviolent Peaceforce, Helping to Leave, & The Way of Ukraine Charitable Foundation ➡ The movement from Russian-occupied #Ukraine to Ukrainian-controlled territory entails numerous protection risks as people travel through regions heavily affected by conflict and into #Russia, subjected to at least two security screenings, all before crossing into Sumy region of Ukraine via the Kolotilovka (RU)-Pokrovka (UA) border checkpoint. 📢The Government of Ukraine, national and international humanitarian organisations, civil society groups, and international donors can take several steps to better respond to protection risks and challenges faced by #Ukrainians returning from occupied area. https://lnkd.in/ea4-qhCy

Two years since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion in Ukraine, an estimated 3,238 women and girls have been killed; while 56 per cent of approximately 4 million internally displaced are women. Predictions for 2024 are somber, with 8 million women and girls in need of humanitarian assistance. Amidst the challenges of war, women and women-led organizations are playing a significant role in providing humanitarian aid, supporting their communities and sustaining the economy. In 2023, UN Women provided humanitarian response to more than 45,000 women and girls, with 100,000 dependents indirectly supported, through life-saving humanitarian assistance, psychological support, legal aid, and referrals to social services. UN Women also disbursed USD 10.6 million to support women and women-led civil society organizations nationwide. Together, we must continue to safeguard the health, rights and dignity of women and girls in Ukraine. On the last few months in Ukraine, I've gained a deep understanding of the situation on the ground. Among the various challenges faced by civilians caught in the conflict, one group particularly stands out: the elderly men and women living near the frontlines. The hardships they endure are immense, not only due to the immediate dangers but also because of the significant barriers they face in accessing essential services and understanding the humanitarian aid mechanisms available to them. This revelation highlights an urgent need for tailored support and outreach to ensure our most vulnerable are not left behind. Let's discuss ways to bridge this gap and provide the necessary assistance effectively. #Ukraine #HumanitarianAid #ElderlySupport"
